Description of Department:
The mission of Facilities Services is to operate, maintain and renew campus facilities to support the mission of the campus, using quality materials and workmanship to ensure a safe, reliable, attractive and efficient physical environment.
The Facility Services Grounds Department at the State University of New York at Oswego invites applications to fill temporary, full-time Highway Equipment Operator, Grade 7 positions.

Salary: $16.76/hour. In accordance with the CSEA Operational Services Unit Agreement.

Description of Responsibilities:
Operational Needs:
- Checks, adjusts, monitors, and operates equipment including backhoe, sweeper, roller, lifts, loaders, trucks, tractors, mowers, spreaders, and sprayers.
- Performs routine maintenance and repairs on machine to insure safe and efficient operations.
- Maintains grounds, roadways, waterways, and trails.
- Assists skilled and semi-skilled trades' workers by performing the more routine manual tasks of the trade.
- Operates and maintains motorized equipment and machinery.
- Assists in operations by performing routine, repetitive activities.
- Acts as a lead worker in a small crew providing advice and assistance to crew members.
- Knowledge of snow removal equipment and operation.
- Must be dependable and able to work in all types of weather.
Job Duties:
- Operate all types of vehicles and equipment in the Grounds Department.
- Perform routine maintenance and repairs on vehicles and equipment.
- Basic knowledge of the Vehicle and Traffic Law as it applies to the safe and legal operation of the assigned equipment.
- May make emergency welds on vehicles and equipment.
- Ability to operate machinery in a safe and effective manner.
- Ability to understand and follow simple oral and written instructions.
- Ability to perform routine repairs and maintenance on equipment.
- Be physically able to perform the duties of the position.
Requirements:
Minimum Qualifications:
One year of experience in the operation of tractors or other self-propelled equipment and possession of a valid NYS driver's license appropriate for the type of vehicle operated (CDL).
**Employees in this position are subject to pre-employment, pre-assignment (promotion), reasonable suspicion, post-accident, random, follow-up and return-to-duty drug and alcohol testing.**
