Johnson College is seeking a full-time Welding instructor at our new satellite Hazleton campus. This position will include organizing and delivering class syllabi and objectives in a clear, concise manner; maintaining an organized and safe lab; ensuring training aids, tools, and equipment are maintained and prepared for use in the classroom and labs; keeping accurate records of student performance and making the timely submission of academic records; providing students with timely feedback.

The ideal candidate should have the ability to speak confidently in front of a small crowd, a passion for recruiting into the skilled trades, and flexible work hours including evening classes. All teaching positions require a minimum of 4-5 years of technical experience and/or an Associate’s degree, preferred. American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator Certification with 4 years field work experience or Welding Certificate with 4 years in field work experience. Prior teaching experience is preferred but not required for most positions.

Must be able to pass on AWS D1.1.3/8” plate test in the 3G and 4G position using the SMAW and FCAW processes. Demonstrate GTAW skills welding on carbon, stainless and aluminum plate. Demonstrate the use of an oxy/acetylene cutting torch. Present a class in one of the welding subject matters.

Must be able to perform Oxy/fuel gas cutting. Must be able to weld using SMAW, GMAW/FCAW and GTAW welding processes.

Johnson College is seeking a Welding Instructor. The Welding Instructor is responsible to manage, maintain, and supervise their course of study. The Welding Instructor will be responsible for course development, delivery, and assessment. The instructor will report directly to the Program Director.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintain course of study by reviewing syllabi, course curriculum, books
  • Assist with the selection and review of library resources to keep them current for course of study
  • Enforce college policies and procedures with program students
  • Maintain safe learning environment within program areas
  • Submit student book/tool kit/parts information to the Program Director
  • Work with Academics to develop scheduling and transferability of coursework
  • Provide student advisement and assistance when necessary
  • Promote the program and assist with the procurement of educational resources and equipment
  • Participation in College activities and events
  • Participation in professional organizations
  • Assist the Continuing Education Department as required
  • Participate and be an active member in assigned campus committee(s)
  • Must be able to keep a welding shop safe, clean, stocked with materials coordinating with the Program Director and general small repairs to equipment.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Technical- Associate Degree in the subject or related subject taught with 4 years in field work experience or American Welding Society Certified Welding Educator Certification with 4 years field work experience or Welding Certificate with 4 years in field work experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Technical -Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the area taught.

SKILLS:

  • Individuals must have strong communications skills, ability to teach, expertise in their program area, good managerial skills, knowledge of industry standards, assessment skills, organizational and word-processing skills.
  • Must be able to perform Oxy/fuel gas cutting. Must be able to weld using the SMAW, GMAW/FCAW and GTAW welding processes.
  • Be able to instruct a lecture class in the above subject matter and welding blueprint reading.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Enforce college policies and procedures with all students and within their course of study.

EQUIPMENT TO BE USED:

Equipment used in program of study, computers and associated software.

Johnson College, Hazleton is located within 30 minutes of Berwick, PA and 40 minutes south of Wilkes-Barre, PA. This campus is designed to make technology education more readily available to the communities of Hazleton, West Hazleton, McAdoo, Conyngham, Mahnoy City, Delano, Tamaqua and their surrounding areas in Luzerne County PA. Johnson College Hazleton is just off route 924 and is only 5 minutes from Interstate 81 in Hazle Township.
