Department Overview:
The Montana Department of Commerce works with statewide and local partners, private industry, and small businesses to enhance and sustain economic prosperity in Montana. The Department works to improve the state's economy through business creation, expansion, retention, and diversification of the state's economic base; provides direct technical assistance, grants and loans for Montana's entrepreneurs, businesses and their employees; strengthens the economy through the promotion of tourism development, promoting and protecting historic sites, and marketing Montana as a travel and filmmaking destination; promotes access to new markets, both foreign and domestic, for Montana goods and services; provides financing for homeownership and rental assistance opportunities for Montana families; and develops and improves public infrastructure and housing for Montana citizens by providing grants and technical assistance to Montana communities and counties.

Job Overview:
The Montana Heritage Commission preserves and manages historic resources in Virginia City and Nevada City and promotes the appreciation of history through quality visitor experience. The MHC is hiring 12 seasonal short-term worker positions not to exceed 90 workdays. Weekends and extended hours are required with the season beginning mid-May and ends in September (Labor Day).
2023 Season
Training week – May 22nd – 26th
Season – May 27th – Sept. 4th
Visitor Service Associate Tasks
These 12 positions will be working at the Virginia City Depot, Nevada City Museum, River of Gold Panning Experience, and on the Alder Gulch Shortline Railroad.
- Sell tickets/passes for NC Museum, Railroad and River of Gold Panning
- Use a register and credit card machine to collect sales
- Maintain head counts for venues
- Greet visitors and give out information on history regarding the area and attractions
- Stock merchandise
- Other duties as assigned
Twelve Short Term Workers will have rotating schedules at the different locations- Virginia City Depot, Nevada City Museum, River of Gold, and Alder Gulch Shortline Railroad. Employees must be flexible in order to work varied shifts as well as a variety of concessions.
Shared housing provided for employees who stay the whole season (Memorial Day weekend – Labor Day).

Qualifications - External
The above knowledge, skills, and abilities are typically acquired through a combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and one (1) year of job-related experience. Other combinations of equivalent education and experience may be considered.
