Job description
- Proficient in obtaining images for basic cardiac scans according to ICAL Standards.
- Organizes and directs the flow of patients through the ECHO Lab to ensure the quality of care.
- Performs echocardiograms on all age groups in a timely manner and assists the physician in reading.
- Maintains records and files related to echocardiograms.
- Performs EKGs and GXTs as needed.
- Maintains clean and workable equipment and work area.
- Demonstrates cost-conscious behaviors by utilizing equipment and supplies efficiently.
- Responds to "STAT" calls as defined in departmental policies.
- Performs basic cardiac life support as needed.
- Knows appropriate personnel to alert in emergency situations.
- Flexible for helping to cover all shifts as needed.
- Displays a sense of responsibility and is observant of the patient in his/her care during the procedure.
- Assist in maintaining departmental statistical data.
- Aware of safety precautions as they relate to the age of the neonate, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patient.
- Attends in-service programs, required training/education, and unit/department/service meetings.
- Assist with the upkeep of supplies and equipment.
- Assist with transportation of patients as needed.
- Performs all assignments in a timely manner, establishes priorities of care and related assigned duties; effectively organizes workday. Authority.
- Needs to be functioning independently within 6 months of training.
- Maintains performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards as outlined in the performance evaluation.
- Performs compliance requirements as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
- Must adhere to the DCH Behavioral Standards including creating positive relationships with patients/families, coworkers, colleagues and with self.
- Requires use of electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software and intranet.
- Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.
- All other duties as assigned.
- Is a high school graduate or equivalent with successful completion of on-the-job training.
- Certification as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer.
- Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Ability to tolerate prolonged periods of standing and walking.
- Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Is able to push stretcher/wheelchair with an average adult patient.
- Is able to do frequent stooping and on occasion crouching, crawling, or kneeling.
- Ability to reach reasonable distances in any direction.
- Ability to run in emergency situations.
- Must be able to move fingers in a coordinated manner.
- Must have the ability to feel and perceive temperature, texture, shape, and size with fingertips.
- Ability to reach reasonable distances to handle the equipment.
- Ability to respond in emergency situations.
- Ability to coordinate eyes and hands and accurately maneuver ECHO probe.
- Ability to maneuver an ECHO machine down the halls and through corridors.
- Physical presence onsite is essential. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
- Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, lab chemicals, and hazardous material.
- Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment.
- This position requires contact with others including the patients, physicians, coworkers, team members, and visitors.
- There may be times when there is interaction with another person that may be angry or aggressive and help to solve the situation may require requesting assistance of a more qualified individual.
- Communication may come in the form of electronic mail, face-to-face, telephone, or letters/memos.
- This individual may be responsible as a team member to answer the department telephone and work in groups or teams.
