Position Overview:

The Transitional Housing Live-In Staff will reside on-site at Village at Ithaca’s transitional housing program, a project of the Youth Homelessness Demonstration Project which is a federally-funded initiative to prevent and end youth homelessness. The Live-In staff position will function primarily as an evening/weekend program supervisor in order to address any immediate issues that arise with participants or the housing site itself. The Live-In staff will report to the Director of Housing Operations. They will be expected to meet regularly with the Youth Action Board (YAB) at least once a month to discuss their progress and experience at the Village House. They will be evaluated based on the YAB guidelines and must respond to any feedback that the YAB provides. They will be working in tandem with the YAB and the youth within the Village House to ensure that all participants in the program have their needs met.

About the Village at Ithaca:

The Village at Ithaca was founded in 2002 and has been advocating for youth ever since. Our mission is to advocate for educational equity and excellence for all students, particularly Black/African American, Hispanic/Latino/Latinx, low income, and any other underserved students within Tompkins County, through strategic community relationships, assessment of the local district’s practices and policies, and responsive programs and services. To that end, we address both immediate and basic needs on the individual level, as well as the structural faults in various legal, educational, and other social systems.

Responsibilities:

Provide on-site supervision of building and program participants on evenings and weekends according to the schedule set by the Director of Housing Operations.

  • Work in conjunction with all YHDP Project staff to ensure adequate coverage of the Transitional Housing Residence depending on the needs of participants
  • Work in conjunction with the Intake Coordinator to ensure same-day crisis admittance into the Residence when necessary.
  • Maintain accurate records regarding evening/weekend activities regarding participants and building maintenance requests.
  • Maintain efficient communication protocols with all YHDP Project staff with regard to participant case management needs

Mandatory Qualifications:

  • Experience working with marginalized and disenfranchised youth including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ as well as homeless youth
  • A working knowledge of systemic racism, white supremacy, harm reduction, and trauma-informed practices
  • Valid NYS Driver’s License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Lived experience with homelessness and housing insecurity
  • Willing and able to communicate with youth on multiple social media platforms and other forms of communication

Hours/Salary:

This is a full-time, benefits-eligible position for approximately 40 hours per week on evenings and weekends with the requirement that Live-In staff live in a 1 bedroom apartment on site. Annual salary will be $30,000 in addition to fully paid rent, utilities, internet and cell phone plan.
