Taylor Shellfish Farms is one of the largest producers of farmed shellfish in North America. The company is quickly growing in sustainable shellfish farming with new techniques and innovative growing methods.


POSITION DESCRIPTION Taylor Shellfish Farms is a fully integrated company from breeding our own broodstock to harvesting the product off our farms for wholesale and retail sales. The Totten Nursery is one of the company’s secondary nurseries located in Oyster Bay. The Totten Nursery Manager is responsible for a crew of approximately three employees that will work on the geoduck seed float, floating nursery bags and clam seed on the Totten rafts. AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITES

  • Manage seed health and growth through routine maintenance, cleaning and screening.
  • Coordinate and conduct seed movement between primary nursery sites and the farm.
  • Communicate timely and effectively with farm, nursery, hatchery and other departments.
  • Maintain and manage an inventory database
  • Maintain the Company Safety Program. This includes holding monthly safety meetings, enforcing safety rules, new employee safety orientation, ensuring all employees are current with required certifications
  • Completing Payroll and a schedule for the crew
  • Help create a positive work and environment and manage employees with guidance of the company HR department (hiring, training, developing, and retaining employees)
  • Understanding and being knowledgeable in all the nursery aspects
  • Work with the company maintenance department to ensure equipment & structures are maintained in working order. Conduct preventive maintenance, troubleshoot problems as they arise and plan/organize solutions to minimally impact production
  • Review and analyze monthly financials, which include making sure all departmental charges are correctly coded
  • Work with the company regulatory department to ensure all permits are followed. Keep all needed transfer paperwork up to date. Follow all DNR lease protocols. Aid in any required shellfish health inspections.
  • Maintain Environmental Code of Practice (ECOP) records and conduct quarterly beach/road/parking lot clean ups
  • Attend workshops, conferences, and meetings as required
  • May be required to work at other work sites/locations on occasion. This likely will include: Oakland FLUPSY, prepping gear at Shelton HQ, Assisting with the broodstock assessments, and others.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong planning/forecasting skills
  • Well organized and detail oriented
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office – Work, Excel and Outlook
  • Regular, reliable, predictable attendance
  • 30 – 50 hours per work week. Shift length is variable with the seasons, and can include some weekends, depending on seed request schedules
  • Ability to work outdoors in ALL weather conditions
  • Washington State Boater Card required and boating experience
  • Must be able to drive a company vehicle and qualifies to drive under company insurance plan.
  • CDL, or willing to obtain through company training encouraged

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Must be physically able to lift and handle sixty pounds
  • Must have the ability to swim
  • Ability to sit, stand and/or walk on uneven ground up to 8 hours per day
  • The employee will be required to stoop, bend, kneel, twist and squat
  • The vision requirements include: close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus
  • Must be able to use hands for repetitive simple grasping, pushing, and pulling
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions and various times of day and night
  • Must be able to speak and hear well enough to communicate with co-workers and the public
