We are looking for a Thermal Processing Tech 1 to join our team in Omaha, Nebraska!

As the Thermal Processing Tech 1, reporting to the Manager of Thermal Processing, you will support development of thermal processes for products and packages. You will prepare containers and products for heat penetration studies, operate retort simulators and collect heat penetration data for analysis In addition, you will perform seam teardown and support data collection at the plant level as needed.


Position Responsibilities

  • Set up and operate food processing equipment, produce samples, and conduct testing in the pilot plant in a safe and professional manner.

  • Assist as needed to set up and distribute thermal processing pilot plant schedule, including all project work to be done in the pilot plant thermal processing area on a weekly basis.

  • Support RQI product & packaging tests and initiatives.

  • Operate pilot plant retort simulators to make samples for new or improved products and packages.

  • Conduct heat penetration studies and collect data using computer software (Calsoft & ELLAB).

  • Conduct preventative maintenance of pilot plant equipment. Troubleshoot electrical & mechanical issues including: thermocouples, rotary connectors, slip rings, etc.

  • Prepare, file, and submit necessary correspondence and reports in a professional and timely manner.

  • Perform daily seam tear downs, checks, and adjustments on all appropriate thermal processing containers.

  • Collect time/temperature data at plant level for process validation, heat penetration studies and/or other testing as needed.

  • Maintain adherence to company safety and environmental policies and procedures.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work station.

Position Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree or higher preferred.

  • 1 year of food industrial experience in Process/Product development preferred.

  • Knowledge of food safety, regulations, GMP’s, and processing preferred.

  • Solid interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills (both written & verbal).

  • Team player with abilities to adjust to changing protocol, schedule, and priorities.

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, Word, and Excel.

  • Pro-active self-starter, willing to accept responsibility for business tasks and work with minimal supervision.

  • Able to plan, prioritize, and complete tasks effectively and efficiently.

  • Able to work off-shift as business needs arise.

  • Minimal mechanical aptitude.

  • Some travel is required to support plant projects.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand for up to 6-8 hours a day performing tests in a pilot plant or plant (may be wet) environment.

  • Required to follow GMPs and wear necessary PPE in the Pilot Plant, i.e. wearing hair net/beard net, bump cap, lab coat, and safety-toed shoes.

  • Exposure to food allergens.
