Job Description:

Herkimer College is seeking qualified applicants for a Technical Assistant in the Academic Support Center.

Basic functions of this position include managing all operations of the Academic Support Center front desk, including use of Accudemia and/or other service usage tracking platforms the ASC may utilize, directing students to appropriate resources, answering questions, and to assist the ASC Director with special projects and retention efforts.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

a. Manage Accudemia's service usage collection functions. the primary admin. role in Accudemia with others so designated in the event a back-up staff member is necessary due to illness or absence. Work cooperatively with Director, the ASC Technical Specialist and others to enhance, improve and document the data collection processes used to support the department's operational plan.

b. Assist Director with staff schedule development each semester, the maintenance of daily staff attendance as well as payroll verification of same.

c. Assist Director with purchasing and participate in the department's budget development.

d. Assist Director in the overall daily functioning of the department, including special projects focused on marketing of services, special events, student outreach and retention efforts.

e. Serve as a back-up test proctor for students with disabilities during peak times of the semester.

f. Manage front desk phones, answer questions and take messages. Transfer calls to other extensions as needed.

g. Direct students to proper assistance locations based on request/need.

h. Develop, submit and track IT and Maintenance Track-It requests on behalf of the ASC as needs warrant.

i. Provide supervision of and assistance with copiers and printers.

j. Coordinate room reservations and facility usage by study groups, work groups, committees, teams and classes.

k. Train and supervise student receptionists to assist at the front desk.

l. Use and promote customer service practices to ensure all ASC staff deliver an excellent student experience.

m. Develop and maintain a procedure manual for front desk training purposes. Review annually for necessary updates.

n. Other duties as assigned.



Requirements:

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
Experience in a similar student-centered service environment is preferred. Associate's
Degree required, Bachelor's Degree desired. Experience working with students with
disabilities is a plus.

Seeking applicants with the following experience, skills and aptitudes:

  • Competence in MS Office applications, particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Experience with Banner
  • Experience with Starfish (or other Early Alert systems)
  • Experience with any digitized data-based reservation tracking system, especially Accudemia, TutorTrac, Accommodate or similar systems used in higher education
  • Experience with graphic design and marketing campaigns to encourage usage/sales/participation
  • Ability to learn tech applications quickly; comfortable in computer-based environments
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to train and mentor others for continuous quality improvement
  • Self-starter, able to work independently
  • Belief in student ability to learn and self-regulate when guided appropriately
  • Experience with college-age student population, both traditional and non-traditional, taking courses in-person or virtually
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
