The ideal Bilingual Teacher will have the skills and knowledge to assist youth in acculturation to this country, begin to learn English and continue their education at their appropriate educational level of competency.

Essential Duties for the Senior Accountant include:

• Facilitate educational assessments at arrival and periodically thereafter.
• Develop lesson plans and implement curriculum for each child according to their developmental needs, academic and literacy level.
• Teach lessons in native language, but youth are provided opportunities to learn English.
• Maintain a safe environment and work with the Teacher's Assistant and the Youth Care Counselors to ensure that they are able to facilitate the curriculum in each classroom
• Create and facilitate educational activities in the community as well as hands-on projects that will enhance the lesson plans provided.
• Work with governing bodies to ensure that the academic program is meeting all standards.
• Maintain individualized educational case files and enter relevant information into a designated database in accordance with policies and procedures.
• Effectively build relationships with other team members in order to assist with information sharing and service provision.
• Maintain inventory of all educational supplies and ensure that the education program is fully equipped to meet the needs of youth supported by the program.

Education:

• Bachelor’s Degree in Education from an accredited university required. Master’s Degree Preferred.
• New York State Teaching Certification

Knowledge:

• Thorough knowledge of the theories, principles and practices for educating youth who are non-native speakers of English.
• Must be bilingual in Spanish and English.
• The ability to effectively supervise youth, set educational priorities and assess progress toward academic goals.
• Effective interpersonal skills, including advocacy and conflict mediation skills, and the ability to effectively handle crisis situations.

Experience:

• Minimum of 1 years teaching experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $68,000.00 - $72,000.00 per year
