    JOB PURPOSE SUMMARY
    The elementary music teacher will help students develop an appreciation of and ability to perform music through a variety of musical experiences that include singing, moving to music, listening, and playing of instruments. Perform at a professional level in all areas of teaching, instructional management, interpersonal relationships, professional responsibilities, and general responsibilities. Demonstrate the highest commitment to student achievement and student affective development. Be an effective communicator with staff, students, parents, and the community at large in support of educational programs. Support the ongoing development and implementation of the district's standards based on educational programs.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Education Level Details
    Must possess or qualify for Colorado teaching certificate/license with an appropriate endorsement in K-12 Music.

    License / Certification Required
    Must possess or qualify for a Colorado teaching certificate with an elementary education endorsement.

    Work Experience Required
    One year residency, student teaching, or classroom experience preferred.

    Other Skills and Abilities Required
    Knowledge of core academic subject assigned.
    Knowledgeable of Colorado State Academic Standards
    Must possess up-to-date knowledge of current music learning theory.
    Must be knowledgeable about Mastery Teaching and Learning models and Outcome Based Education.
    Must possess knowledge of cultural diversity.
    Bilingual endorsement preferred.
    Desire bilingual ability in both English and Spanish.
    Training in Orff and/or Kodaly is also desired.

    EVALUATION
    Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provision of Adams County School District Board Policy, GCOA-Evaluation of Instructional Staff.

    COMPENSATION
    Teachers will be placed on the initial compensation scale for this position based on years of experience and education level achieved as demonstrated via service records and transcripts. It is the responsibility of the employee to provide the district with the appropriate, original documents to validate their years of experience and education level.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

    Instructional Strategies
    • Teach inclusive music to K-5 student population.
    • Design instructional activities that enhance the objectives and which reflect an interdisciplinary/thematic approach to teaching and select appropriate instructional materials commensurate with students' ability levels and interest.
    • Work harmoniously with other teachers to ensure a cooperative and positive learning environment for the students.
    • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as required. Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in individual students. Design instructional activities which enhance the objectives, and which reflect an interdisciplinary/thematic approach to teaching.
    • Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, equipment, and technology that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned and present subject matter according to guidelines established by the district, board policies, and administrative regulations.
    • Conduct assessment of student learning styles and use results to plan instructional activities.
    • Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individual Education Plans (IEP).
    • Work with other members of staff to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
    • Uses technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
    • Plan and assign work to instructional aide(s) and volunteer(s) and oversee completion.
    Student Growth and Development
    • Showcase the academic performance of students.
    • Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal assessment.
    • Be a positive role model for students.
    • Participate in school and district music programs and festivals.
    Classroom Management and Organization
    • Create a classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
    • Manage student behavior in accordance with Student Code of Conduct /Student Handbook.
    • Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
    Communication
    • Establish and maintain a professional relationship and open communication with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
    Professional Growth and Development
    • Participate in staff development activities to improve job-related skills.
    • Comply with the Colorado Department of Education, District, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
    • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
    • Assist in selecting books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
    • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
    Policy, Reports, and Law
    • Comply with policies established by Federal and State law, State Board of Education rule, and local Board Policy.
    • Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the building Principal and the Superintendent of Schools.
    Budget Responsibilities
    • Compile and maintain records of instructional materials and supplies.

The position requires occasional walking, standing, sitting, bending, and lifting/carrying work related items weighing less than 40 pounds.
