Key Purpose

The Sustainability Impact Manager oversees the development and enhancement of water, energy, and waste and recycling programs in order to deliver cost savings and reduce environmental impacts (carbon emissions, water use, and trash generation), and support overall client programs. The candidate will also partner with other Energy and Sustainability Managers to develop strategies for multiple accounts. The candidate should be a strong self-starter adept at building positive relationships across global regions to achieve results, have demonstrated success working in client-facing roles, and thrive on identifying and implementing continuous improvement in sustainable building operations.

Key Areas of Collaboration and Influence
  • Report to Head of Sustainability, and collaborate with team
  • Partner with Business Transformation and Operations to promote a culture of innovation, Sustainability and the OneISS vision
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues at multiple accounts and across the company so that information is disseminated effectively and participate in project groups and meetings as required
  • Provide support and engagement with global suppliers to reduce carbon and waste impacts.
  • Promote the IFS model within the ISS community
  • Transfer best practice
  • Use the account successes to promote and further develop ISS

Ideal Candidate Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Sustainability, Energy Management, or related fields or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with General Sustainability in the areas of food, manufacturing, Pharmaceutical, or related activities.
  • Knowledge of sustainability and energy principles and concepts, particularly related to the built environment
  • Knowledge of carbon emissions reduction management tools, practices, and reporting.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, electrical, mechanical, building automation and control systems across a variety of building types including commercial offices and datacenters.
  • Ability to perform Level 1 energy audits and make recommendations.
  • Ability to perform waste and recycling audits and generate reports with recommendations.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication skills, with ability to interface seamlessly with all levels of management. Comfortable working in virtual environments with remote teams.
  • Strong computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint, online software platforms, with the ability to use spreadsheets and data analysis applications.
  • Self-starter, team player, with ability to bring alternate points of view to the discussion and analysis.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and effectively organize responsibilities. Strong project management and leadership skills.
  • Proven record of excellent internal and external customer service.
  • LEED accreditation, preferred

Key Accountabilities

General Sustainability

  • Develop and monitor waste and recycling programs with defined deliverables
  • Create reports with all relevant data for quarterly updates
  • Drive the development of carbon reduction plans for target areas identified including procurement, food, and operations.
  • Develop project plans with timelines and actions.

Financial Management
  • Establish and monitor utilities budgets, oversee bill payment and data management processes. Provide forecasts of utility expenses throughout the portfolio
  • Facilitate energy procurement processes on regular intervals

Data & Reporting
  • Complete Monthly Data reports into Client Sustainability Database on time, resolve any issues with data accuracy/completeness, provide quarterly report out to Client on Account Status relative to energy & sustainability goals
  • Report clear and concise metrics on various energy and sustainability activities (cost savings, CO2, water, etc.), and achievements on prescribed intervals or as requested by client. Communicate plans and progress to all levels of staff through presentations and meetings

Team Collaboration
  • Advise, coach, and support building staff (facility managers, engineers, technicians) in identifying, scoping, and implementing energy efficiency improvements
  • Collaborate with other ISS energy and sustainability managers to share and learn best practices and publish case studies of successful initiatives. Leverage ISS experts in renewable energy, energy supply procurement, and building intelligence tools to meet client goals

Projects
  • Develop and evaluate financial viability of projects for budgeting and approval in accordance with Customer Financial Investment Standards
  • Project management

Other
  • Improve sustainability of facilities in line with industry best practices such as LEED and beyond.
  • Support water saving programs and recycling programs as requested.
  • Support new business pursuits and business development through relationship building and building walkthroughs.
  • Continually monitor industry trends, evaluate new products and services for potential, and participate in industry working groups. Oversee pilot tests of cutting-edge energy and sustainability solutions.
  • Establish a positive rapport with both ISS and client staff and management to ensure a high level of customer service.
  • Utilize internal and third-party sustainability data management platforms for reporting. Ensure data integrity and establish data management processes.
  • Ensure all energy initiatives follow Customer Internal Technical Engineering Standards & guidance and comply with all country, state, local laws.
  • Lead identification and prioritization of energy capital projects, operational changes and physical plant upgrades that result in reduced energy consumption. This may include HVAC, lighting, building envelope, and response and controls, plug loads, distributed and centralized generation, employee engagement, and evaluating new technologies and services.
  • Facilitate renewable energy projects from inception through completion (solar, fuel cells). Ensure client key stakeholder alignment (Technical, Financial, Organizational) is achieved at each phase of the project.
  • Conduct ASHRAE LEVEL 1 energy audits and walkthroughs

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time
  • Must be able to travel
