Position Summary: JMT is seeking a Subsurface Utility Engineering Technician (SUE) to join our Winston-Salem, NC office. The successful candidates will under close or moderate supervision, perform engineering duties in planning, designing, and directing civil engineering projects such as roads, railroads, airports, bridges, channels, pipelines, site development, drainage, and water and sewage systems. Essential Functions and Responsibilities

• Operate equipment to locate subsurface utilities
• Mark underground utilities
• Operate vacuum excavation truck to expose underground utilities
• Learn to interpret roadway and utility plans, and utility record drawings

Nonessential Functions and Responsibilities

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Computer proficiency including experience with Microsoft Office Suite, MicroStation, other design software
• Valid Drivers License is required

• High school diploma or equivalent
• 1+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience

Working Conditions

Work is performed in the field 95% of the time. Ability to extensively perform bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 25 lbs as needed. Work may be conducted outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

Work is performed within a general office environment 5% of the time. Office work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require occasional standing and walking. Lighting and temperature are adequate and there are no hazardous or unpleasant conditions caused by noise, dust, etc. within the office environment.

Travel is required for this position.
