About the Job
This is a part-time, as needed, temporary position.
The Substitute Teacher is responsible for providing instruction, managing the classroom environment, and promoting student learning in the absence of the regular classroom teacher. The Substitute Teacher will be utilized for K-12 classrooms. This position requires the proficient use of the company’s Electronic Medical Records System. Newly hired employees will be subject to a review of their usage of this system after 60 days of employment.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Teaches scheduled classes. Prepares a written summary of work completed.
- Provide classroom and individualized instructions in basic skill content, physical education and/or arts and crafts activities.
- Administers individualized achievement tests in all basic achievement areas, including reading, math, spelling, vocational aptitude, and interests.
- Implement academic curriculum in conjunction with each student's mental health treatment plan.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
- Accurately observe student behavior and implement behavior modification when appropriate.
- Assumes all duties and responsibilities of the absent teacher.
- Follows the teacher’s written lesson plans. Consults with the Program Director/Manager and/or staff to resolve questions and/or concerns.
- Makes the absent teacher aware of special situations or problems encountered.
- Implements effective pupil management procedures. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code. Intervenes and/or reports concerns to an administrator.
- Develops and maintains a positive learning environment.
- Respects personal privacy. Maintains the confidentiality of privileged information.
- Takes precautions to ensure staff/student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised.
- Supervises non-classroom duties when assigned.
- Attend staff meetings, training’s, teleconferences, IEP meetings, and Treatment Team meetings.
- Communicate with community professionals as required, including police, medical personnel, parents, social service agency personnel, etc.
- Maintain daily reporting and charting on students.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma, or GED, and 40 semester hours in psychology, social work, justice, guidance and counseling, or other human service area required.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, social work, justice, guidance and counseling, or other human service area and Alaska Teaching Certificate preferred.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Physical ability to employ verbal and physical aggression control techniques after being certified.
- Knowledge of Alaskan childcare regulations and Familiarity with state and federal special education laws.
- Current Alaska driver's license, acceptable driving record, vehicle insurance.
- Current first aid and CPR certificates.
This position is a driving position. Applicants will be required to submit a driving record if selected for the position.
All applicants must be at least 21 years of age due to State of AK regulations and must pass a State of AK Background Check. All employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide a medical or religious exemption prior to date of hire.

Pay: $20.75 - $24.06 per hour
