Job description
Utah Valley University is seeking a student employee for the instructional assistant position. Maintains a variety of class/student information on the Learning Management System. May tutor individual or small groups of students, as needed.
- Course record-keeping as needed
- Continuous review of course content to maintain knowledge
- Logistical student interactions through email/phone (logged)
- Monitor student progress and track missing assignments
- Record/upload scores in the LMS
- Edit/update course syllabus, quizzes, exams or other logistical documentation not including course content
- Tutor individual students (regularly scheduled office hours optional)
- Tutor small groups and/or large study sessions (optional)
- Grading communication postings (e.g. discussion board) for participation and content
- Objective grading of written assignments totaling at least 15 pages (not including discussion postings)
- Must be a current UVU student
- Junior or Senior in Chemistry or Biology major or related major
- Has to have completed CHEM 1220
- Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, LMS and presentation software.
- Ability to work independently, make decisions, follow oral and written instructions, and meet deadlines.
- Ability to assess student work according to faculty and general instructional standards.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records.
- Ability to utilize good verbal and written communication skills to provide concrete and effective feedback.
