Job description
At Zenith Aerospace, we design, build, and fly large scale unmanned aircraft from the ground up. We recently closed a funding round led by Founders Fund — the first investor in SpaceX — and with the wind in our sails, we want to grow our team with driven, talented, bootstrapping engineers and technicians from diverse backgrounds and paths of life. If you are excited about aerospace, tackling world-class engineering problems, and making big things fly, you are in the right spot. Join us!

We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated Stress Engineer to join our Airframe team. As our Stress Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting structural analyses of aircraft components and systems using both analytical and numerical methods. You will work closely with our R&D team to ensure the design meets the necessary requirements, standards, and regulations for airworthiness. This position reports to the Head of Aircraft Structures and is located on-site at our headquarters in Belmont, CA.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct static and dynamic structural analyses of aircraft components and systems using analytical and numerical methods (FEA, hand calculations, etc.) to determine their strength, stiffness, and stability under various load cases
  • Develop and validate finite element models (FEM) of aircraft components and systems using appropriate tools and techniques
  • Perform fatigue and damage tolerance analyses to ensure the durability and reliability of aircraft structures
  • Develop and validate load cases for structural analysis using flight test data, wind tunnel data, and other relevant sources
  • Work closely with the whole aircraft team to ensure the design meets the necessary requirements, standards, and regulations for airworthiness
  • Collaborate with other departments such as design, manufacturing, and testing to provide technical support and solve engineering problems
  • Write technical reports and present findings to internal and external stakeholders

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or closely related engineering discipline
  • 5+ years of experience as a Stress Engineer or Stress Analyst in the aviation and aircraft industry
  • Strong knowledge of composite structures, loads & dynamics, and flight sciences
  • Proficient in using FEA software and hand calculation methods
  • Familiarity with the Dassault suite (3DExperience, Simulia, ABAQUS)
  • Experience with composite analysis
  • Experience with buckling analysis
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment
The base compensation is targeted between $130,000 - $175,000 annually, depending on experience level. Beyond base salary, we offer meaningful equity grants in the form of incentive stock options [ISOs], comprehensive health insurance offerings, and four [4] weeks of PTO annually, among other benefits.
We welcome you to apply even if you don’t match every requirement asked for above. Data shows the most impactful business outcomes are from teams with individuals with a breadth of backgrounds, lived experiences, and skills. For accommodation to complete an application or proceed in the hiring process please e-mail talentops@zenithaero.com.

We are headquartered in Belmont, California, USA. We are predominantly an on-site work environment with regular expectation of working at our HQ. The provided compensation range above is for employees living within regular commuting distance to our worksite.
