Staff Firmware Engineer

Itron is leading the way in modernizing how natural gas is measured at the edge of the gas grid. Utilizing ultra-modern, low-consumption solid state electronics and the latest in Li-ion battery technology, we are delivering compact and feature-rich ultrasonic metering with integrated RF connectivity that can perform for up to 20 years on a single charge. The prospect of repeated battery charges or changeouts has been blown away with Itron’s international Intelis Gas Meter platform, paving the way for the implementation of metering and communications technologies once believed to be prohibitive in the natural gas world.

In this role, you will be developing the industry-leading embedded code that works within the meter to convert low-level metering inputs into data that can be shared with the energy management systems. You will use your experience and expertise in firmware creation to continue to make our meters more accurate, easier to interface with, and more efficient.

Essential functions

• You will develop new embedded processor code that interacts with sensor modules, discreet components, and other applications
• Interface with and support other firmware and software teams.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to understand product metrology requirements, including internal specifications and applicable industry standards
• Conduct and participate in code and design reviews with peers and managers
• Troubleshoot, support, and improve existing firmware

Qualifications

Prefer 3 – 10 years’ experience in programming

Demonstrated experience in C, C# and with protocols such as I2C, UART, and USB

Education:

A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Communications Engineering or equivalent is required.

Preferred Skills/Experience:

A Master’s Degree in related fields is a bonus

Experience with real time operating system or Linux driver development.
