Northrop Grumman is one of the industry leaders in Stealth Technology. As such, we are involved in all phases of development, production, and maintenance of Low Observable (LO) platforms. We are currently looking for Low Observable / Radar Cross Section (RCS) /Survivability Engineers to work on exciting and challenging projects.
This position will be located in Northridge, CA.
We are looking Survivability Engineers with experience in at least one of the following skill areas:
- Design Integration
- Component Integration
- Proposal Writing and Estimating
- Specialty Materials
- Computational Analysis
The Survivability core competencies:
- Develop and integrate advanced technology to reduce the detectability of aircraft in the electromagnetic and other spectrums.
- Identify and implement predictive analysis codes, both internally developed, and government developed.
- Build and test physical models; design, develop and build test and verification equipment; and develop, test, and integrate specialty materials.
- Works closely with engineers of other disciplines to optimize the integration of this technology on existing and future airframes.
- Perform analysis on Low Observable predicted and measured data to identify component and system performance trends, identify component defects and identify potential areas for improvement.
- Coordinate with other Integrated Product Team (IPT) members and suppliers to convey and achieve Survivability requirements arriving at a balanced.
- Thrive in a fast-paced work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse assignments, and collaborative/team settings across all levels.
- Ability to work closely with industry and government sources to identify and implement material and technical solutions to meet requirements.
Basic Qualifications:
- Specific Survivability Experience in at least one the following areas

- Proposal Writing and Estimating

- Computational Analysis
- A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Secret security clearance is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance.
- Educational/ Experience Requirements:
- Staff Survivability Engineer: Bachelor’s degree in a STEM discipline AND 14 years of related professional/military engineering experience, OR a Master’s degree AND 12 years of related professional/military engineering experience OR a PhD degree and 9 years of related professional/military engineering experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Project leadership skills and creative problem-solving including invention of novel material processes.
- Proficiency in RF modeling and testing at an indoor/outdoor RCS/RF test facility.
- Experience with high temperature vehicles and material applications
- Experience with low cost and field maintainable materials
- Strong interpersonal communication and technical writing skills to enable effective personal interaction and collaboration with a multi-disciplined team and customers.
- Applied Electromagnetics, or Comprehensive understanding of Electromagnetic Energy transmission though space and within materials.
- Strong knowledge of low observables and RCS performance.
- Master’s degree in Physics, Chemical, Electrical Engineering or a related technical field.
- Proficient in development, executing, and analyzing tests.
- Ability to work with internal support organizations such as Global Supply Chain and Security.
- A current active U.S. Government in-scope DoD Top Secret security clearance is required to start, with the ability to obtain and maintain Top Secret clearance.
