Job description
This position is for Essai Test Solutions, Inc. a wholly owned subsidiary of Advantest America, Inc. located in Fremont, CA, Chandler, AZ and Phoenix, AZ.
- This position is a Sr level do it all combination of CNC MFG process engineer + PDM administrator/programmer + CAD designer.
- Essai is a complete design, fabrication and assembly solution shop with one of the largest on-site CNC shops in the entire PHX area. We do NOT make chips, but we do supply the test equipment (such as sockets and thermal test units) needed to run the chip factories automated quality tests.
- Most of all our products are fabricated in house on CNC machines using plastic, aluminum or steel, with some EDM and plastic 3D printed parts thrown in the mix as well.
- This position will require in-depth knowledge of CAD and how to be a PDM administrator. Performing tasks such as PDM work flow programming and daily PDM administration like setting up new users and general daily debug + more advanced PDM development projects is part of the role. We are entirely a Solidworks CAD and Solidworks PDM environment. Other CAD program experience with other platforms does not transfer well. We are looking for a direct-plug-in person who knows Solidworks CAD and Solidworks EPDM.
- On a daily basis this person will be involved with Material Review Board reviews, respond to Andon alerts out on the floor as part of the "design representative" element of the single minute response team, attending the daily operations meetings and in general serve as the engineering design interface between the manufacturing departments and the front end design departments.
- Hands-on investigation will be needed when problems show up, so familiarity with inspection tools and a strong sense of mechanics and CNC fabrication is a must so you can figure out what's going on.
- Performing data studies by pulling information from our ERP system will be needed, and sometimes this will require that you dive in and take these measurements yourself to gather the data needed.
- An understanding of machine tolerances as they apply to CNC parts is needed, what tight tolerances cost and how precision CNC manufacture is performed so you can understand DFM challenges you will encounter and need to resolve. If you have never picked up a tap in your life, cut a part on a mill or inspected parts yourself with calipers and drop gauges, you probably don't have the required background.
- From the design/engineering end of things, this person will be the primary interface between MFG and the Design departments for the entire Phoenix facility.
- For the design interface aspect of this role, you will need to be able to work with CAD models, understand what functional impact might occur due to various defects, and concisely relate what's going on to the design department if there are major DFM issues.
- Sometimes this person will be involved in various design tasks as needed to help improve processes, such as designing new fixtures or part trays. Processing ECO's is also part of the role.
- Process improvement is also a part of this role. It will involve improving processes and products through investigation, analysis and experimentation.
- As appropriate for the problem, 5S, Six Sigma are to be used to drive KPI improvements with structure and consistency. Knowledge of Toyota production system lean operational system theory is a strong plus.
- A great deal of individual drive and leadership will be required, combined with a diverse skill set.
- Sr-level drive/confidence and the ability to identify and understand how to go after problems is required
- Will work closely and constructively with managers and process operators from Inventory, Production, Assembly, Design and others to deploy solutions and process improvements.
- This person will have to conduct high-level presentations to executive level teams yet still able to boil down complex material to present to non-technical staff and still get full understanding.
