About the Pricing Team
The PetSmart Pricing team provides product and market analytics in support of promotional decision making that aligns with the company’s strategic and financial goals. The geographic scope of responsibility encompasses all PetSmart brick and mortar stores in the U.S. as well as the promotion activity for products sold on PetSmart.com. The Pricing team’s primary scope is focused on base price management, promotional efficiency and markdown optimization. The Pricing team is a highly analytical team and takes great pride in being subject matter experts across a wide array of analytical platforms including MicroStrategy, Power BI, Alteryx and direct SQL.
About the Sr. Analyst, Promo Reporting and Analytics Position
This position is a critical role that will help support the reporting/analytics needs of the pricing team whose responsibilities include:
- Optimizing the reports needed on the Pricing Team to give actionable insights to drive the business
- Promotional Optimization: Assist in the development, management & training of an all-encompassing promo optimization tool used to forecast and house all future promotional activity.
- Post-Mortem Analysis: Develop & manage a dashboard analyzing each division’s promotional strategy, reporting out on actuals versus forecast, ultimately assigning a grade at several hierarchy levels.
- Test & Measures: Assist in the execution of various store level tests submitted/requested from the merch team & aid in reporting out on results/recommendations.
- Identify potential financial risks associated with the promotional strategy
- Provide analytical support on an ad hoc basis to help drive business results as needed
- Be able to work cross functionally within the organization (IT/Planning/Merchandising, etc) to help achieve company goals and objectives
- Take initiative on optimizing current processes/tools/dashboards to maximize output and drive actions that will help support the company goals and objectives
- Be a steward of change and creativity with problem solving
- Actively create and lead special projects that drive growth opportunities
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: BS degree in Finance, Business, Economics or Analytical Field (Statistics, Applied Mathematics, etc.) (MS preferred); or proven equivalent experience
Core Competencies
- 3-5 years’ experience with data management and dashboard creation in various visualization tools (Excel, PBI, Tableau, etc.)
- Solid understanding of SQL and Alteryx workflows
- Bias for action and comfortable working in a rapidly changing retail environment
- Ability to deal with ambiguity and propose creative solutions
- Enjoy teaching others about Analytics and Research and enthusiastic about serving as a corporate authority (SME) in a technical discipline and being recognized as a world class expert
Technical Skills
- Highly proficient in Excel and Microsoft Office Suite
- Working knowledge of basic promotional principles (i.e. baseline, incrementality, discount structure, etc.)
- Solid understanding of retail/CPG product hierarchies and database structures
- Solid experience with SQL and MicroStrategy, Alteryx, Project Management/Technical Product Management a plus
- Programming experience with at least one of R, Python or Spark is a plus
