GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The special education Paraprofessional assists students with special needs under the direction of a certified teacher. They will assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities, help special needs students, cares for their physical, emotional health and safety, affirming their abilities, and strives to promote dignity in all relationships.
THE PROGRAM:
The Connecticut Junior Republic's Cable Academic and Vocational Education Center for Boys (CAVEC) is located on the Litchfield campus and provides regular, special, vocational and alternative education programs, as well as enhancement, transition and related services.
The mission of the Cable Academic and Vocational Education Center is to provide all students with a supportive educational environment which nurtures their ability to maximize their individual potential and strengthen their social and academic experiences, now and throughout their lifetimes.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Associates degree (or equivalent - 60 credits); Bachelor degree preferred
- Experience working with students in special education programs
- Experience with reinforcing and supporting a positive classroom culture/environment based on diverse student needs
