Role and Responsibilities

Leads technical simulator projects of considerable scope in office, on site, field, and laboratory. Projects may be of experimental or design in nature. Works on non-routine and highly advanced technical work. Work activities have an important impact on service delivery, cost effectiveness and training qualification renewal. Assists Engineering Team with modifications, design changes, and software enhancements.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Prepares the Simulation Training Equipment, such as performing in-depth visual alignment and the pre / post flight.
  • Evaluates Simulation Qualification testing (QTGs) results and performs preventative maintenance for each training device, based on the published monthly schedules.
  • Trains simulator technicians’ levels I, II and III and provides advanced troubleshooting, while identifying and coordinating efforts to correct any training deficiencies.
  • Takes charge of the shift and allocates tasks to be completed to other techs, as necessary.
  • Loads appropriate exercise scenarios and other tasks required to prepare for specific training sessions, while also completing Journey Logs at the start and finish of scheduled training sessions.
  • Diagnoses reported snags, verifies simulator operation, rectifies and records complex operational and maintenance snags, restores failed equipment and performs software changes to correct problems on the simulators and associated simulator systems.
  • Performs complex assignments in office, on site, field, and laboratory. Projects may be of experimental or design nature.
  • Solve a variety of complex simulator and/or aircraft systems problems.
  • Run and evaluate required Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Approval Test Guide (ATG)/ Qualification Test Guide (QTG) tests.
  • Assist Engineering Team with modifications, design changes, and software enhancements.
  • Perform refurbishment and hardware modifications.
  • Point of reference for all questions and all expertise.
  • Provides answers and reaches out to resources who can provide guidance on specific problems.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 10-12 years direct simulator experience with at least 5-6 years of relative simulator experience per assigned location
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all types of test equipment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with software diagnostics and utilities on at least 3 types of simulator.
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting skills
  • Run and evaluate required FAA ATG / QTG tests.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform in-depth analysis and research for hardware modifications and upgrades.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist the CAE SimuFlite Engineering Team with modifications, design changes, and software enhancements.
  • Demonstrated ability to assist with the development and delivery of technical training for other technicians.
  • Demonstrated ability as the “Technical Expert” on at least one major simulator system (i.e. motion, visual, aircraft systems, etc.).
  • Fluency in English

Is a troubleshooting expert and can solve different kinds of problems on the simulator – both hardware or software
Demonstrates leadership capabilities by managing shifts, assigning tasks, overseeing deficiency reports and interfaces with customers bringing up solutions to their problems.
Rolls out training and troubleshooting courses to all other technicians.
Interfaces with Engineering and other points of contacts as required.

Physical Effort:

  • The physical or muscular exertion required for prolonged standing, walking, and lifting or moving objects (weighing as much as 50lbs) and the resulting fatigue brought about by these activities
  • Work in sustained sitting, standing, stooping, and squatting positions. Also climbing on ladders and equipment to heights 25 to 30 feet above the floor. Ability to safely move and work on equipment in confined spaces for reasonable periods of time.
  • The physical dexterity required in performing tasks that require hand/eye coordination and fine motor skills.
  • Have the manual dexterity, knowledge, and experience necessary to work safely and effectively with various hand tools.
  • Ability to maintain situational awareness at all times and work safely on and around complex machinery that is characterized by sudden and at times violent movement in all 3 axes.
  • Ability to work safely in cool interior conditions (temps between 55- and 65-degrees Fahrenheit)
