Location: Owasso Library 103 W. Broadway, Owasso, OK. 74055
Salary: $9.84/hr.
Status: Part Time - 16 hour/week
Schedule:
Monday 4pm - 8pm
Tuesday 4pm - 8pm
Wednesday 4pm - 8pm
Friday 2pm - 6pm

The Owasso Library Shelver is trained to help customers have an excellent experience, sorts and places books and other library materials in proper locations; maintains neat, tidy and orderly conditions; helps connect customers to the appropriate zone or service, and assists with self-service circulation as required. Assists with attractively displaying materials. Must be flexible and adaptable throughout the workday in the type and location of work to be accomplished in order to provide superior customer experiences.

Essential Functions:
  • Sorts returned materials and retrieves, organizes, and returns discharged and browse cart materials to proper library shelves in alphabetic or numeric order;
  • Maintains shelves and circulation areas to ensure that the library is neat and materials are in the proper location so customers can easily find them;
  • Pulls the hold list and returns expired holds;
  • Maintains other shelf lists as needed;
  • Registers customers, issues library cards, charges and discharges library materials to/from customers using computerized circulation systems as required;
  • Assists customers in person and by phone in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library;
  • Complies with Process Activated Training System (PATS) scripts when performing job tasks and making additional contributions to the PATS scripts as necessary to continually ensure all tasks are being performed consistently and with the best practices;
  • May be assigned to any branch, outlet or community space.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Helps customers with basic questions about the library; answers phones, explains basic knowledge of library operations;
  • Pulls items for conditions and points out collection gaps to the Librarian;
  • May help customers with basic technology and Internet problems;
  • May assist Librarians with programming, as assigned;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to read and perform alphabetic and numeric sorting;
  • Basic computer skills, including ability to learn library’s automated system;
  • Knowledge of new service model;
  • Ability to help customers with their basic computer needs, including e-mail, answering Microsoft product questions, and navigating the Internet;
  • Ability to provide directions;
  • May work irregular hours including evenings and weekend shifts up to eight hours.

Education and Experience:
  • Some high school education or training required;
  • Bilingual English / Spanish preferred;
  • No previous experience required.

Physical and Environmental Conditions:
Work requires pushing moderately heavy items (up to 50 pounds), lifting up to 25 pounds, and very long periods of walking and/or standing, and frequently requires stooping, stretching and bending.
Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls. There are occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperatures (extreme cold or heat) and air conditions due to exposure to the outdoors.
