Setter Apprenticeship

No previous jewelry related work history? That’s okay! We are offering extensive, paid training to make you an expert in diamonds and jewelry pieces.
R2Net is a diamond bridal jewelry company with a technology soul. R2Net - James Allen is one of the world’s largest online retailer of diamonds that has pioneered the way consumers shop for fine jewelry online. With James Allen as the retail face, R2Net handles the business operations and provide solutions to diamond partners through servicing a supply chain platform that connects manufacturers, retailers, and consumers.
This is a unique opportunity to get into the world of jewelry with little to no experience. We are looking for people who are excited and eager to learn. Apprentices will work closely with our team of experienced setters and quality assurance team learning the ins and outs of setting diamonds. This apprenticeship program gives you an entry point to a career in jewelry by guiding you in taking steps towards becoming a James Allen Certified Setter and helping you maintain the high level of skill required in the jewelry industry.
The courses, tasks, and resources provided to you in our Diamond and Jewelry Training Program were created to give you foundational knowledge, skills, and on-the-job experiences you need to become a James Allen Certified Setter.

Performs stone setting to predetermined company levels of production and quality. Assemble head / shank, Set round, marquise, and princess cut stones in solitaire mounting, Half and full shanks, Sizing up / down, Retip prongs, Solder rings, Simple fabrication and repair. Cuts files setting to accommodate stones, using files, chisels and both hand drills and flex shaft motors. Set uniformly on plane in cases of multiple stones. Ability to work with platinum and gold.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Enhance your setting knowledge through training and on-the-job demonstrations with other experienced setters
  • Follow the James Allen criteria to meet quality standards for all your work
  • Mark and drill holes in jewelry mounting to center stones according to design
  • Position, align, and set center stones on jewelry pieces
  • Mount and secure item in place using setting tools
  • Follow all instructions and procedures; use appropriate tools as required
  • Inspect basket and head mountings before setting and review work after completing the setting
  • Count and document individual daily work performed
