SCOPE OF POSITION: Coordinate the maintenance, set up, organization and cleanliness of campgrounds, facilities, supplies, and programs.

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum High School Graduate or equivalent required.
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License.
  • 2 seasons of summer camp experience or 1 year in equivalent work required.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Desire to work with youth.
  • Ability to supervise and provide guidance to staff and campers.
  • Ability to diffuse stressful situations with staff and campers.
  • Be a Christian with a strong, demonstrative commitment to following Jesus Christ, and biblical principles, who is enthusiastic, energetic and creative in spiritual leadership.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Enforce and lead grounds keeping and landscaping projects.
  • Enforce and lead the set-up and teardown of program and meeting areas.
  • Lead in unloading, moving, and storing supplies as needed.
  • Lead in restocking of cabin and common bathrooms.
  • Coordinate with program leads for set-up of organized activities.
  • Lead in the trash removal from dining hall and kitchen to dumpster.
  • Enforce and lead the cleaning and washing of trash cans as needed.
  • Lead in removal of trash throughout entire site once daily.
  • Lead in the cleaning of guest staff lodging as needed.
  • Work with permanent camp staff to set up guest lodging.
  • Lead in the maintenance of Camp Kuratli by:
    • Emptying all outdoor and indoor common trash receptacles.
    • Maintain camp lawns and landscaping.
    • Provide general building maintenance.
    • Maintain trails.
    • Other tasks as needed.

General Duties:

  • Foster and nurture Christian faith and discipleship in visible, fruitful ways to campers
  • Attend and participate in programs and spiritual activities.
  • Enforce respect for personal property, camp equipment and facilities.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with all staff, volunteers and campers.
  • Enforce adherence to camp and Salvation Army policies and procedures.
  • Ensure and provide supervision and physical/emotional safety for campers and staff.
  • Participate and/or assist in all summer camp programs as required e.g., chapel, staff meetings, campfire, camp wide games, night-watch, free-time, electives, rise and shine duty, etc.
  • Ensure and assist in the cleanliness of cabins and outside areas.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned by the Youth Program Specialist, Divisional Youth Secretaries and/or Camp Administrator
  • May be required to serve as Break Day Supervisor at times during the season.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, hike and twist on a continuous basis for up to 15-20 minutes or prolonged periods at a time.
  • Ability to grasp, push, pull objects, such as files, file cabinets drawers, and reach overhead.
  • Ability to lift to 25 lbs.
  • Ability to lift, unload, and move food and supplies; lift dishes to their storage locations; use kitchen equipment safely, operate electrical equipment and mechanical equipment.
  • Ability to operate landscaping equipment including but not limited to lawn mower, weed trimmer, etc.
  • Physical ability to respond to a variety of situations; must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • There may be phone and in-person contact with others from diverse backgrounds who may be angry, hostile, confused or frustrated.
  • May be required to work in all areas of camp including, but not limited to, the kitchen, dish room, laundry facility and grounds.

  • Work outdoors, sometimes in inclement weather.
  • Work around dust, odor and high noise levels

MISCELLANEOUS:

The Salvation Army does have a dress code. This will be shared with you at the time of employment.

The candidate chosen for this position will be required to pass a motor vehicle record check. They must have a valid drivers license and acceptable driving record.
