Description

The purpose of this role is to provide leadership and direction to business divisions for various E2E projects, project studies result in business proposals, including country and site selection, logistics and supply base considerations, transition, and capital investment cost alternative analyses. Additionally, this role provides direct project management of sourcing projects, country capability assessments, and provides global direction to develop and maintain knowledge on pertinent data required to make sourcing alternative analyses and recommendations in support of product teams and their strategic businesses. The incumbent will establish and provide on-going leadership to assisting Business Units with the implementation of sourcing changes and capacity expansions once a decision has been made.

Job Duties

Be the trusted advisor to assigned product groups and serve as the enterprise expert for determining end to end sourcing solutions for the enterprise. Work extensively with Product Vice Presidents to identify desired manufacturing and supply footprint. Build an independent opinion on customer needs, problems/opportunities, and possibilities for implementation. Act on this opinion (e.g., recommends appropriate approaches which are new and different from those requested by the customer). Become intimately involved in customer's decision-making process.

Manage execution of sourcing methodology - for making manufacturing location decisions including consideration of interplant and purchased finished components. This includes long-term vision development, vertical integration analysis, capacity determination, alternate sourcing, and support for production facility business proposals.

Ideal Candidate will be data & analytical driven . This role will organize projects that drive a more current approach to data collection and analysis. This includes the full aspect of the supply chain i.e., logistics and transportation data. Data and analysis will be performed in modern platforms with advanced visualization techniques and accessible to the most senior leaders across the company.

Manage team to execute enterprise transition and sourcing analysis process - Manage a cross functional team of assigned experts from, corporate accounting, logistics, operations, and machine business units to complete projects with clear and consistent communication leading to executable Business Proposals.

Complex Projects - Lead a small number of complex, high visibility sourcing projects that would normally include numerous business divisions and contentious issues. Key necessary skills include a clear understanding of enterprise needs, organizational hurdles, and an ability to mediate between divisions.

Problems and issues have a variety of interpretations and require careful evaluation and reference to many options. Must identify the nature of a complex or undefined problem and then develop the best solution or application from numerous alternatives.

Work with external consultants such as McKinsey, Institute for Manufacturing of Cambridge University, Sealed Air, Biersdorf, Bombardier, etc., to collect and exchange information related to the business.

Incumbent is free to consider issues or courses of action within general Caterpillar policies, principles and longer-term goals. Decisions have a significant impact on programs and projects which directly link to Caterpillar's key goals and initiatives.

This position has extensive enterprise impact and visibility. By managing the process to set the enterprise's long-term vision for production facilities, this position essentially oversees the company's investment in production facilities for the foreseeable future. In addition, this position is to take on the most complicated sourcing projects to help implement the vision.

Basic Qualifications

Requires a 4-degree in a technical discipline scientific, technical, or administrative disciplines such as engineering, accounting.

10+ years progressive job-related experience is required.

Must have significant managerial experience and skill to plan, organize, oversee, and direct work in an organization-wide area such as developing a strategy for a company-wide function (5-10 years).

Top Candidates will also have

MBA preferred

Must have highly developed interpersonal skills to deal with sensitive, emotional, or potentially controversial situations.

Executive presence as this role includes dealing with very high-level offices.

3-4 years of manufacturing and sourcing experience.

Additional Information

The location for this position is Peoria, IL (Building AB). Other Caterpillar locations will also be considered.

Domestic relocation assistance is available for this position.

This position may require up to 20% travel.
