Boeing Defense, Space & Security (BDS) Air Dominance is seeking a Senior Quality Engineer to join the Phantom Works Quality team located in Berkeley, MO.

Position Responsibilities:

This position is primarily focused on Quality requirements for inspection equipment and requires the ability to distill Quality and Engineering-based requirements and validate compliance regarding:

  • Selection and use and control of Measurement and Test Equipment (M&TE)

  • Calibration and certification of M&TE

  • Measurement uncertainty test plans and validation

  • Developing the product conformance decisions requirements based on Engineering and other referenced processes

  • Developing multiple Gauge Repeatability and Reproducibility (R&R) plans, tests and validation reports

  • Understanding of 3D model practices/requirements

  • Understanding of inspection techniques (both manual and automated) for:

    • Proprietary surface coatings thickness and reflectivity/absorption

    • Assembly (gaps between skins and structures)

    • Assembly (panel to panel gaps)

    • Assembly fastener flushness (+ and -)

    • Airframe contour and profile

  • Automated Quality record data collection methods and results (e.g., NLIGN, TRAXS)

Candidates are expected to have technical competency in the following areas:

  • Analytical Skills: ability to collect, organize, synthesize, and analyze data, summarize findings, and develop conclusions/recommendations from appropriate data sources

  • Engineering Drawings & Specs: ability to read, understand, and interpret engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)

  • Engineering Comprehension: knowledge of various engineering disciplines (e.g., electrical, mechanical, and systems). Ability to communicate with technical personnel from multiple skill areas and functions to evaluate technical information/issues impacting design, production, and support of products/services

  • Fabrication and Assembly Tools: knowledge of tool functions and capabilities (e.g., indexing, fixturing, handling) to support the manufacturing processes and flow

  • Materials Characterization: knowledge of methods, techniques and test procedures to characterize electromagnetic, optical, thermal, mechanical, metallurgical and physical properties

  • Operations Processes: knowledge of responsibilities and tasks performed by various Operations departments/disciplines (e.g., Fabrication, Assembly, Tooling, Quality, Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering) and the interactions and impacts between departments/disciplines

  • knowledge of how to derive and allocate requirements (e.g., system, sub-system, software) and show traceability throughout the product lifecycle

  • Risk Assessment Methodology: knowledge of risk assessment methodologies (e.g., hazard severity, probability or likelihood of occurrence) and tools (e.g. fault tree analysis, failure modes effects analysis)

  • Systems Thinking: ability to understand the big picture and the inter-relationships between components of systems and plans, anticipate future events, and apply the principles of systems thinking to accelerate performance

This position is expected to be 100% onsite. The selected candidate will be required to work onsite at the listed location under minimal direction.

Special Program Access or other Government Access Requirements are mandatory for this position.

This position requires an active U.S. Secret Security Clearance (U.S. Citizenship Required). (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active)

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

  • 3+ years of experience in a Quality job role

  • 3+ years of experience reading, understanding, and interpreting Engineering drawings and specifications (e.g., blueprint/schematic reading, specification, change, design)

  • 1+ years of experience with Quality Engineering or Test Engineering

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited course of study, in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry

  • Experience with manual and automated inspection techniques

  • Experience with automated Quality record data collection methods and results

  • Experience with fabrication and composite manufacturing

  • Experience with materials, processes and physics

  • Experience partnering with Production Engineering and reviewing manufacturing planning

  • Experience with Early Quality Involvement (EQI)

  • Experience with Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)

  • Experience with Lean and Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA)

Typical Education & Experience:

Education/experience typically acquired through advanced technical education from an accredited course of study in engineering, computer science, mathematics, physics or chemistry (e.g. Bachelor) and typically 9 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience (e.g. PhD+4 years' related work experience, Master+7 years' related work experience). In the USA, ABET accreditation is the preferred, although not required, accreditation standard.
