SUMMARY

As part of its racial equity goals in response to the national debate on racism and structural inequality, UnidosUS is accelerating efforts to define and drive an accurate understanding of Latinos and their contributions to U.S. society.

The Senior Program Manager will support efforts to develop and articulate a Latino lens within current and future public discussions on racial equity and racial justice. The goal of this position is to help ensure that both the contributions of the Latino community and the many systemic barriers they face are accurately understood by the public. This position will research and document how Latinos have experienced manifestations of structural racism. The Senior Program Manager will draft, edit, publish, and appropriately disseminate information internally and externally. The Senior Program Manager will prepare reports, fact sheets, presentations, and talking points for use by UnidosUS staff, leadership, and public audiences. In addition, the Senior Program Manager will participate in fundraising efforts, drafting funder proposals and reports. This position is hybrid and based in our Washington, D.C. headquarters with the flexibility for remote work.


SALARY: $80,604 - $95,369


Essential Functions

  • Apply critical evaluation of material gathered from a variety of sources (such as academic journals and policy reports), conducting literature reviews focused on:
  • Researching and synthesizing essential literature on systemic/institutional racism, specifically the Latino-focused subset of that literature.
  • Reviewing and summarizing core civil rights laws, highlighting strengths and weaknesses from the Latino community’s perspective.
  • Preparing analyses on how disparities are experienced by Latinos in key issue areas (education, health, immigration, housing, and workforce development).
  • Develop policy recommendations based on research evidence.
  • Draft and manage the development of high-quality research reports, with an eye toward time and budget.
  • Stay on top of new developments in relevant racial justice and racial equity policy research and narrative change areas.
  • Disseminate findings widely (including web content such as blogs and other media releases).
  • Prepare, draft, review, and edit a variety of position papers and related products, including blogs, press releases, op-eds, one-pagers, and articles on relevant journals or publications.
  • Assist with literary review and media scans and prepare abstracts and strategies based on findings.
  • Create content for real-time social influencer engagement opportunities.
  • Engage in narrative change and policy work related to Latinos and racial equity.
  • Maintain the program listserv and communications with partners in academia, social media influencers, journalists, and consultants.
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships with allied individuals, policymakers, coalition partners, funders, and others to provide support for UnidosUS’s Racial Equity Initiative policy work.
  • Work with team members to develop proposals to support the Racial Equity Initiative work.
  • Generate new ideas for fundable research projects focused on policy or narrative change.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; master’s degree preferred.
  • Eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience in a nonprofit setting working on Latino issues. Racial justice experience within the Latino community is a plus.
  • Strong project management experience is required.
  • Knowledge of key racial justice trends, debates, and struggles in communities of color.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Office 365.
  • Robust understanding of and commitment to improving opportunities for the Latino community.
  • Commitment to UnidosUS’s mission, vision, and values of Excellence, Accountability, and Respeto.
  • Commitment to the U.S. Latino community, Latino nonprofit organizations, and the Latino market.
  • Demonstrated experience working in nonprofits, community-based organizations, and diverse communities.
  • Strong ability to facilitate and synthesize different views, guiding multiple participants toward consensus decisions.
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines with moderate supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain sound professional relationships, including the temperament to impartially represent different perspectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams and committees.
  • Flexibility to travel 20% of the time, sometimes on short notice.
  • Acute attention to detail.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are a plus.
