POSITION SUMMARY
The Color Developer formulates/inspects product for color uniformity to meet customer specifications
1st Shift
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
- Develops formulas for wood stains by mixing pigments with waterborne base to specifications or customers sample.
- Determines composition of color sample.
- Applies sample formula to wood and compares resulting stain/finish to product sample swatch.
- Alters formulas if colors on wood piece do not match colors on sample swatch, utilizing knowledge of colors printing requirements.
- Inspects product for color uniformity; rectifies defect.
- Examines outer surface of finish for spots of light or irregular coloring.
- Records formula ingredients/measurements/conditions for future reference
- Files samples according to color/type of material etc.
- Observes procedures in production painting/finish application to investigate causes of substandard color.
- Consults with and advises production staff regarding technical problems in mixing colors within production constraints.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Follows all safety policies, procedures and programs; is responsible for individual safety and the safety of others.
- Establishes and maintains Company housekeeping standards.
- Abides by the policies, procedures and work rules established by the plant.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
- High school diploma or GED.
- Methodical/analytical problem solving skills
- Strong organizational/follow-up skills; attention to detail
- Ability to work well with limited supervision.
- Professional presentation and attitude
- Experience with Microsoft Office or similar computer software
PREFERRED OR DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 2-5 years of verifiable paint matching experience and proven effectiveness on dealing with difficult/challenging colors and matches
- Experience using spectrophotometer / light box
- Associates or Bachelors in Chemistry/Material Science preferred
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Normal work hours with occasional optional as well as mandatory overtime necessary to meet deadlines
- Normal office and manufacturing plant environment which may include exposure to dust, industrial solvents, liquids and other materials.
- The working environment will extend to both hot and cold conditions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must be capable of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) necessary to comply with government and company safety standards
- Job includes tasks that require standing, bending, lifting materials weighing up to 50 lbs., twisting, gripping and stair climbing.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $19.00 - $27.00 per hour
