About This Role:

The Senior Mold Design Engineer focused on developing complex mold designs in plastic injection. Has proven track record of meeting on-time delivery while managing multiple mold builds.

Essential Job Functions/Tasks:

  • Leads the team in Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
  • Participates in Mold Flow Analysis reviews to identify root cause and troubleshooting efforts related to product and/or tooling designs.
  • Is the subject matter expert providing intellectual advice on new tool builds and revisions specific to plastic injection tooling.
  • Maintains technological advancements in mold building including innovative methods to reduce waste and improve OEE.
  • Leads multiple tooling projects managing its construction costs effectively.
  • Collaborates with Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering and Mold Makers on mold design projects.
  • Responsible for organizing and facilitating mold design review meetings with tooling vendors.
  • Works with the assigned NPD Project Manager to meet on-time delivery to schedule and budget.
  • Coordinates mold tooling projects with outside suppliers. Coordinates engineering changes with internal and external resources.
  • Participates on the New Product Development team meetings.
  • Keeps abreast of current technology and competitive developments.

Education/Training Required and Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in plastics or mechanical engineering or a combination of equivalent education and work experience.

Experience Required and Preferred:

  • Minimum of 5-7 years Designing complex injection molds that are dimensionally accurate, dependable, and durable in construction.
  • Proficient in Pro-E Creo and Solidworks CAD Software.

What You Bring:

  • Working knowledge of the plastic injection molding industry, with understanding of specialized manufacturing methods and practices related to the construction of high production plastic injection molds.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to work with close tolerances, strong mechanical aptitude, strong mathematical skills (algebra, geometry, trigonometry), proven problem-solving skills, and practical understanding of strength of materials as it pertains to plastic injection molds.
  • Knowledge of plastic resins and their molding characteristics.
  • Excellent knowledge of the principles of good plastic part design with the ability to assist the new product development team.
  • Applied knowledge of tool steels and alloy materials used in the manufacturing of injection molds.
  • Understanding of toolroom equipment and its primary function and capabilities in the manufacturing of plastic injection molds.
  • Expertise with solid modeling software: ProEngineer, SolidWorks and Mold flow.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work with members across the organization.
  • Ability to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Excellent organizational skills and the ability to work within timelines.
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally. Must have or be able to obtain a valid passport.
  • Knowledge of scientific molding would be beneficial.

The salary for this opportunity ranges from $88,400 to $120,580

The Company complies with all federal/local/state regulations in regard to pay. The above represents the expected salary range for this job requisition.
