- Bound aerospace engineering mission and vehicle design problems by developing use cases, concepts of operation, and driving requirements.
- Trade, optimize, and define system architectures and missions.
- Collaborate with other system engineers and design engineers to perform conceptual design, sizing, and analysis including flight dynamics, thermal, structural, and mass properties.
- Model and optimize trajectories for a range of launch vehicle configurations.
- Incorporate and validate aerodynamic data.
- Incorporate propulsion system models into mission analysis.
- Use a fundamental knowledge of flight mechanics to sanity check the results of simulation.
- Write cogent and succinct technical memos and devise innovative, intuitive, and delightful ways to visualize quantitative information.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of a B.S. degree in Engineering.
- 10+ years of applied industry experience on development of launch vehicle designs.
- Demonstrated knowledge of creating models and performing system simulations, performing trade studies, and establishing system metrics.
- A strong, solid understanding of launch vehicle flight mechanics and atmospheric flight.
- Deep experience using trajectory analysis and optimization tools such as OTIS or POST.
- Experience developing physical simulations from first principles and modeling uncertainty in simulation through Monte Carlo analysis techniques.
- Experience with a scripting language or platform such as MATLAB or Python.
