The Xbox Hardware team consists of progressive, diverse, and creative professionals who design, test and manufacture some of the best-loved entertainment devices in the world. Our team ships tens of millions of hardware products every year including the Xbox Series X|S Consoles, a full accessories lineup, and more.

We are looking for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is charged-up by leading system-level designs through challenging product development cycles. A mix of technical breadth and vision allow you to work cross-functionally to tie mechanical assemblies, optics, electronics, and software into compelling experiences. The Senior Mechanical Engineer is committed and enjoys bringing technical and tactical leadership to cross-disciplinary teams.

We are looking for candidates with mechanical product design expereience with medium to high volume mobile consumer electronics. This includes designing mechanical parts and assemblies for manufacture. This candidate demonstrates the ability to deliver a solution to the customer’s need through design and a track record of innovation and experience in selecting material and components to achieve cost targets. The establishment of specifications and written test plans, including the development of test procedures to verify designs are integral to the position.

An ability to manage projects and design rigor against development timeline, and your communication skills allow you to work seamlessly with teams across various engineering functions and geographies. As such, you are willing to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities. This candidate should have the ability to work international contract manufacturers as well as external design resources.


Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinating external design activities and provide technical leadership
  • Development of system requirements by working with team members to evaluate different solutions for functionality, cost, and risk
  • Developing holistic system-level solutions for complex integrated devices
  • Specifying, designing (Architecture, Part/Assemblies, BOM, cost analysis), implementing and verifying Mechanical systems
  • Developing Mechanical solutions for new product development and production
  • Working across disciplines to design, test, and debug complex hardware technologies for product development, to meet aggressive cost and schedule goals
  • Learn, analyze, break down complex issues, and collaborate across cross-functional teams to resolve issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to plan work and work to a plan, adapting as necessary in a rapidly evolving environment
  • Create and maintain specifications to be used internally and externally
  • Identify internal schedule and milestones - recommending solutions that fit each project
  • Ensure designs meet the agreed upon milestones with the proper collateral at a high level of quality
  • Manage Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, Quality and Reliability requirements
  • Serve as team leader – fostering culture, demonstrating best practices, empowering others, and mentoring others on the team

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
  • 7+ years related technical engineering experience

o OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related technical engineering experience

o OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience

o OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field

o OR equivalent experience.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • 5+ years designing for high-volume mobile consumer electronic devices
  • 11+ years related technical engineering experience
    • o OR Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years related technical engineering experience
    • o OR Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 6+ years related technical engineering experience
    • o OR Doctorate degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related technical engineering experience
    • o OR equivalent experience.

Mechanical Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $112,000 - $218,400 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $145,800 - $238,600 per year.
