Springboard Collaborative invites talented and passionate candidates to apply for the position of Senior Accountant. The Senior Accountant will be responsible for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and regulations, and providing support to the Finance department. A successful candidate will ensure the accuracy of financial records, uphold best accounting practices, adhere to deadlines, and communicate financial information as necessary.

Springboard Collaborative closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world in which all children have the requisite literacy skills to access life opportunities. The Senior Accountant supports this goal by ensuring financial compliance and sustainability for long term organizational health.

The Senior Accountant will report to the Assistant Vice President, Finance and work as part of the Business Strategy team. This is a great opportunity to support an entrepreneurial team to maximize the impact of a rapidly growing organization.

Here are your priorities in the first year:

  • You will interrogate and enhance accounting processes and procedures
  • You will scope out additional beneficial functionalities in Sage Intacct
  • You will assist in rolling out and/or migrating to new finance softwares/platforms
  • You will ensure the accuracy of financial recording and reporting
  • You will assist in setting up or refining financial policies/guidelines as necessary

Here are your responsibilities within and beyond the first year:

  • You maintain the general ledger, assist with audit & tax preparations, and perform other accounting duties as assigned. You will document and monitor internal controls in support of the external auditing team and provide requested tax information to external auditors. You will perform payroll related journal entries.
  • You perform account reconciliations and review entries of junior accountant to ensure accuracy. You will ensure pass-through GL accounts are cleared out each month and reconcile month-end balances in GL accounts with supporting documentation
  • You prepare and analyze financial reports and records. You will make recommendations based on analysis and status of reserves, assets and expenditures. You will run monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports after books are closed and manage scheduled reports sent to Springboard team members.
  • You perform variance analyses and prepare account reconciliations and investigate and document drivers of variances.
  • You coordinate accounting projects and initiatives with other members of the accounting and finance team or with other departments. You will ensure clear communication on all projects and initiatives with relevant stakeholders and provide regular updates on projects and initiatives to display progress made

What you offer us

Here are competencies and requirements we expect the right candidate to have:

  • Attention to Detail: You will ensure accuracy of financial records and perform account reconciliations.
  • Coaching & Mentoring: You will uphold and ensure best accounting practices within the Finance team & train and mentor junior staff. You have familiarity with accounting software and programs to support mentorship.
  • Accountability & Dependability: You have the ability to meet or adhere to financial deadlines such as Month-End, Quarter-End, and Year-End Close.
  • Communication: You have the ability to communicate and articulate financial information and flag areas of financial concern.
  • Valuing Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: You help create and maintain a work environment that embraces and appreciates diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • You are a certified public accountant (CPA)
  • You have at least 4-5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • You have prior experience leading or assisting external Financial Audits
  • You have proficiency in Microsoft Office/Google Suites
  • You have excellent knowledge of accounting regulations and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)

It would also be nice if you had:

  • Non-profit experience
  • Experience with Sage Intacct

Compensation for this role: Each role at Springboard is placed in a compensation band with 5 levels. Generally, we expect all candidates that meet the hiring criteria to be offered the midpoint of the band. This role sits within Band 4. Generally, we expect all candidates that meet the hiring criteria to be offered $97,875.75. The actual level of the successful candidate (and corresponding salary) will be based on compensable factors such as job-relevant education, job-relevant experience, training, licensure, demonstrated competencies, and other factors. You may also be eligible for Springboard's collective bonus program.

Our process to determine compensation: Springboard does not negotiate the offered salary during the offer conversation. Throughout the interview process, we will evaluate your alignment with the compensable factors listed in the job description. From there, we will determine your starting salary on a level within the job band.

Location and travel

Applications are welcome from any location within the United States. This role can be performed remotely, with quarterly travel to participate in team and org-wide retreats. Springboard Collaborative’s headquarter office is in Philadelphia, PA.
