We are seeking a Security Officer to join our Emergency Services department. This position is Part Time with less than 20 hours per week and is eligible for a 13% pay differential in addition to the base salary in lieu of benefits. Mid Columbia Medical Center is located in The Dalles, Oregon. We work, live, and play in the scenic Columbia River Gorge, Oregon. Located 85 miles east of Portland in the majestic Columbia River Gorge, The Dalles features old-growth forests, rushing waterfalls, and year-round access to outdoor recreation, including downhill and cross-country skiing, world-class water sports, and miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Responsibilities:
The Security Guard is responsible for the security of main hospital campus when on shift. This includes the safety of its patients, staff, employees, and visitors within its boundaries. Guard conducts general security duties and specific posted duties in the protection of persons and property and the enforcement of all applicable policies, rules, regulations. Guard will deter criminal activity and misconduct and perform other duties specified in post orders. The Security guard will respond and intervene as appropriate for violent/combative individuals, missing patients, and other crimes on campus. Guard may conduct investigations and file daily activity reports.
This position works under minimal supervision and is responsible for coordinating the administrative and/or operational activities of the security department with focus on safety and day to day operations. Work situations are a variety of routine and non-routine situations and functions requiring a service oriented individual, discretion, good judgment, and physical ability. Guard actively and consistently demonstrates the mission, vision, and values of Mid-Columbia Medical Center. Internal contacts include staff, management, physicians, and volunteers throughout the organization. External contacts include visitors, patients, and local law enforcement agencies. Individuals on the security force will be required to wear a uniform; including a bullet proof vest.
Qualifications:
  • Education:
    • High school graduate or equivalent in training or experience.
    • Valid Oregon driver’s license.
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • MOAB certification required within 90 days of hire.
    • DPSST: Unarmed or Armed Security Certification from the Department of Public Safety and Standards Training - or temporary DPSST certification is required upon start.
  • Experience:
    • Six (6) months experience in a health care setting; will consider similar experience in security background, law enforcement or military in lieu of hospital setting.
    • Experience in military or law enforcement preferred.
    • Bi-lingual helpful.
    • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a background investigation in accordance with all federal, state, and local laws. MCMC will consider qualified applications with criminal histories in a manner consistent with applicable laws.
    • As a condition of employment, applicants will be subject to a drug screen to the extent permitted by law.
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
    • Prior work experience involving dealing with customers, troubleshooting, and/or managing stressful situations.
    • Be at least 21 years of age.
    • De-escalation training or experience desired.
    • Strong communication skills required.
    • Must be able to remain calm and professional in all situations.
