Job description

Southern Oregon ESD is seeking a school nurse to join our team of professionals in supporting students in Southern Oregon.

Students attending local schools may have a variety of chronic and acute health conditions, such as seizures, asthma, diabetes, and severe allergies. Some students may require medical assistive devices and procedures, such as gastric tube feeding, oxygen administration, suctioning, or nebulizer treatments. School Nurses help school districts meet the needs of these students and maintain compliance with Oregon rules and statutes, working under the requirements of both the Oregon Board of Education and the Oregon State Board of Nursing.

School Nurses provide staff training, delegable tasks training, childhood diabetes database reporting, assessment and development of individual health plans and emergency action plans, participate in IEP and Section 504 plan meetings for students with special health needs, and provide medication review, vision screening, and health case management.

School Nurses are an essential part of the school team, collaborating with school front office and classroom staff to support students of all ages in the management of health needs so they may participate in the school routine to the greatest extent possible.

School Nurses follow the school year 190-day calendar of local districts. They serve students in preschool through high school and potentially through age 21. SOESD offers professional development opportunities to School Nurses to assist them in furthering their expertise in supporting students’ health care needs.

If you are a Registered Nurse who would like to work with students in the school environment, please consider applying for this position with SOESD.
