Position Summary
The Sanitation Associate performs all janitorial and sanitation functions and duties. This position is responsible for complying with all company policies, GMP, OSHA, Federal, State, and Local regulations and procedures.
Essential Functions
- Performs cleaning of equipment, processing areas, and support areas using appropriate procedures and inspections
- Performs all needed sanitary requirements of equipment, processing areas, outside grounds, restroom facilities, and trash removal from production areas
- Sweeps, wipes, scrubs, vacuums, sanitizes, washes, and picks up as required to keep building, grounds, and equipment clean and sanitary to provide an environment compliant to GMP protocols
- Properly wears personal protective equipment as required. Wears appropriate clothing in accordance with GMPs and company standards
- Ensures safe and proper use of tools and equipment; ensures hand tools are free of defects; maintains neat and orderly work area, including proper storage/disposal of cleaners, sanitizers, and other cleaning chemicals
- Maintains current work knowledge of cleaning methods and procedures
- Communicates/coordinates with other departments to ensure efficient utilization of time
- Practices and complies with all company policies and procedures, including safety and other work rules
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Take appropriate actions to ensure the integrity and sustained certification of the NSF guidelines
- Responsible for reporting and taking any necessary action to prevent food safety and food quality problems from occurring
- Responsible for following and enforcing procedures outlined in the quality system
- Maintain a variety of documentation in the form of logs and checklists and ensure accuracy of the information recorded
- Tasks require frequent use of ladders, reaching, bending, and constant movement
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Core Competencies:
- Knowledge of basic math skills
- Ability to comprehend label instructions, MSDS and other safety warnings and chemical mixing formulations
- Knowledge of basic sanitation principles in a food processing facility, including knowledge of FDA, USDA, and EPA is preferred but not required
- Must speak/read English
Work Environment:
The physical demands described herein are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy machinery.
- This position will involve standing for long periods of time.
- This position will involve bending/kneeling for extended periods of time.
- This position will require frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds (13.6kg), and occasional lifting of 50 pounds (27.3kg) during the day.
- This position will require work on ladders or other apparatus at varying heights.
- Employees are required to wear protective garments including lab coats/smocks, hair nets, beard guards (where applicable), shoe covers, eye protection, and gloves.
- Employees may be required to wear specific PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) depending on job function. PPE may include goggles, respirators, boots, and face shields.
Work Schedule:
- Monday-Friday, 7:30 am - 4:30 pm (shifts may vary based on the needs of the company)
- Occasional overtime may be required
- No travel required
