Job Summary
First Peoples Worldwide (FPW) at the University of Colorado Boulder is hiring a Research Manager. Reporting to the Director of Operations and working across First Peoples Worldwide, this role manages ongoing research objectives through planning, developing, and performing targeted research, analysis, and scholarship. The Research Manager works with Fellows and First Peoples’ staff producing their own research and is responsible for integrating all internal research efforts into ongoing campaigns and organizational strategy.

First Peoples Worldwide (First Peoples) is housed at the University of Colorado Boulder Center for Native American and Indigenous Studies (CNAIS) within the Graduate School and is guided by an external Advisory Board. First Peoples is an Indigenous-led organization that translates on-the-ground impacts of investment affecting Indigenous Peoples to corporate decision makers. Having started the flywheel of Indigenous-centered corporate engagement in the 1990s, First Peoples Worldwide is a leader in deploying strategies to move the market towards respect for Indigenous People’s rights through the intersection of business, law, and finance. By building the business-case for Indigenous Peoples’ rights and wellbeing, First Peoples increases corporate accountability, facilitates investor engagement aligned with Indigenous priorities, and supports Indigenous leadership to achieve self-determined economic goals.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
Conduct research activities in alignment with organizational strategy
- Conduct research and analysis for First Peoples’ ongoing programs and initiatives.
- Assess, interpret, and evaluate outcomes of research to translate materials for appropriate audiences.
- Write and contribute to relevant scholarly and industry publications.
Manage research and scholarship efforts for First Peoples Worldwide
- Identify and pursue research opportunities that align with the First Peoples’ mission.
- Manage the lifecycle of research projects from conception to completion.
- Work with staff and external partners to manage research needs including allocating assignments as needed.
- Collaborate on the development of tools and resources based on research findings.
Present on and publicize research and tools
- Collaborate with First Peoples leadership to develop and implement plans for publishing and publicizing research findings and associated tools and resources.
- Attend in-person and virtual convenings to present on and publicize research findings and associated tools and resources.
- Provide support and oversight to other First Peoples staff to present on research, tools, and resources connected with their work.
All FPW staff contribute content for First Peoples articles and publications and provide narratives for grant reports.

This is a fully remote position.
What We Can Offer
The salary range for this position is $72,000 to $80,000 annually.

What We Require
- Bachelor's Degree.
- 3-years of experience which should include applied community research and analysis, including interpreting, assessing, and evaluating research outcomes; project management, people management, or mentorship; crafting written and oral communications for different audiences; working with Indigenous Peoples and/or Native Nations.
What You Will Need
- Knowledge of Indigenous issues, particularly at the intersection of government, law, business, and finance.
- Knowledge of community research modalities.
- Excellent interpersonal, creative, and organization skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously, and to seek support and direction as appropriate.
- General computer literacy including proficiency with Microsoft programs and collaborative document editing.
- Ability to give and receive feedback to all levels of staff, management, and leadership.
- Ability to display initiative and introduce innovations to accelerate progress toward strategic vision and mission and dedication to inclusive excellence.
- Ability to meet goals and communicate scheduling challenges.
- Ability to effectively work remotely.
- Ability to travel approximately 7 times per year.
- Capacity and ability to learn new things.
What We Would Like You to Have
- Graduate Degree.
- 4 years of related experience.
- Experience working in mission oriented/non-profit spaces.
