NORC at the University of Chicago is seeking a Research Associate to support the Public Health Analytics (PHA) Team in the Public Health Research Department. The mission of PHA is to analyze and apply secondary data sources to address questions of public health importance. The PHA team conducts work on a variety of public health topics and disciplines including chronic disease surveillance, epidemiology, health economics, and outcomes research. #LI-AG1 #LI-remote#LI-hybrid#LI-onsite
Preferably applicants will be based in our Chicago, IL or Bethesda, MD, offices with a hybrid office/work from home schedule. Moving assistance may be available. Remote work from home may be considered, with a preference for applicants in the metro Atlanta GA or NC research triangle areas.
The Public Health Analytics Team conducts work on a variety of topics, including analyzing secondary data such as surveys, billing claims or electronic health records to estimate the burden, costs and outcomes of a variety of health conditions. We also evaluate public health and medical policy and interventions, including estimating outcomes, costs, and health and economic benefits. We offer broad, multidisciplinary experiences spanning public health, epidemiology, statistics, data science, and health economics. This candidate may work primarily on a series of PHA projects that involve creating statistical estimates of the prevalence of major chronic diseases at the national, state, and local level, identifying trends and disparities in disease, treatments, and outcomes, and creating interactive web-based mapping and dissemination platforms.
- Provide general research support related to public health analytics research
- Conduct literature reviews, statistical analysis of primary and secondary data and prepare memos, tables, and graphs based on findings under supervision of experienced professionals.
- Develop project materials, such as data reports, visual exhibits for reports, and writing sections of reports and papers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelors’ degree in health, analytics, economics, statistics, or other STEM degree that includes qualitative and quantitative analysis. Master's degree applicants are also encouraged to apply.
- Experience with quantitative analysis or data management using excel, SAS, STATA, R, python, or another statistical program
- Must have effective verbal and written communication skills
- Must have strong attention to detail and strong organizational skills
- Must be able to work collaboratively as part of a team
- Strong proficiency with MS Office software.
