The state supported living centers serve people with intellectual and developmental disabilities who are medically fragile or who have behavioral problems. Rehabilitation Teacher I performs entry-level rehabilitative and behavioral teaching work. Work involves identifying client's goals and the skills they need in order to obtain their goals. Additional, duties include teaching skill acquisition plans, and implementation and monitoring of skill acquisition plans. Works under the close supervision of a Behavior Analyst and Behavior Health Specialist, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement.



Essential Job Functions:
Develops (writes skill acquisition plan (SAP) using State SAP template, meets with interdisciplinary team before annual Individual Support Plan Meeting to create goals and objectives), prepares (writes SAP and completes revisions requested from SAP supervisor) , edits (completes revisions requested from SAP supervisor), and distributes (trains direct support professionals (DSP) and programming trainers) skill acquisition plans to teach residents skills for independence in the areas of leisure, independence, relationships, work and daily living. (20)%

Collects, monitors and reports data on resident's progress towards goals of skill acquisition plan. (Gathers data from CareTracker and analyzes data. Writes analysis in a monthly progress note. Monitors integrity of SAP a minimum of twice per year per individual) (20%)

Trains direct support staff on the implementation of skill acquisition plans, including data collection. (Skill acquisition plans are considered formal active treatment. Skill acquisition plans teach individuals new skills. DSPs and Programming Trainers collect data in CareTracker. Rehabilitative Teacher I uses this data to monitor the individual's progress or lack of progress towards their goals.) (20%)

Administers assessments of resident's skills (completes a functional skills assessment that will aide in identifying the individual's strengths and needs/barriers) (20%)

Administers assessments for treatment integrity of implementation of skill acquisition plans (Monitors integrity of SAP a minimum of twice per year per individual. Completes observation of SAP when individual has gone 3 months with no progress or regression in skills -as noted by data collected and analyzed in progress note) (10%)

Attends and actively participates in inter-disciplinary team meetings such as weekly team meetings, annual individual support plan meeting, annual SAP committee review meeting for individuals prior to ISP and any other meetings that pertain to SAPs for example- creating SAPs, changing SAPs, discontinuing SAPs, discussion of progress or lack there of, discussion of mastered skills, discussion of needed staff training, disscusion) (10%)

Other duties as assigned include, but are not limited to, actively participating and/or serving in a supporting role to meet the agency's obligations for disaster response and/or recovery or Continuity of Operations (COOP) activation. Such participation may require an alternate shift pattern assignment and/or location.

Knowledge Skills Abilities:
Knowledge of techniques in the rehabilitative therapy area of specialization of developmental disabilities.

Ability to read, write and comprehend the English language at a minimum of a High School level.

Ability to communicate effectively with others.

Ability to collaborate as a part of a team.

Ability to collect data and develop support plans.

Ability to train staff at all levels.

Skill in critical thinking and problem solving techniques.

Skill in the use of computers and related software products.

Ability to administer functional skill assessments of developmentally disabled individuals.

Registration or Licensure Requirements:
Registered Behavior Technician is preferred.


Initial Selection Criteria:
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis, Psychology, Education, or a related field is preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
Experience in the use of computers and related software products preferred.
Experience providing services to persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Experience in writing reports.




Additional Information:
Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide and Employee Misconduct and HHS OIG List of Excluded Individuals/Entities. Males between the ages of 18 – 25 must be registered with the Selective Service.

All State Supported Living Center employees are subject to Random drug testing.

Flexibility in work hours may be required for this position. The position may be required to work overtime and/or extended hours. Must be willing to work weekends and holidays.
