Role Summary

The Environmental & Regulatory Specialist will act as a subject matter expert for all SunGrid’s environmental and regulatory needs and will report to the Corporate HSSEQ Manager along with a project-based reporting structure. This position will be site-specific (Houston Office) with less than 20% travel.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Maintaining required permits, including timely applications and record submissions.
  • Coordinating with consultants and regulatory agencies in maintaining all necessary environmental regulatory permits, including timely submittals and fee payments.
  • Collecting data and conducting various environmental audits and inspection.
  • Identifying opportunities for expansion of environmental compliance efforts.
  • Establishing sequencing of environmental and regulatory permits for projects for the bidding, pre-construction, and construction phases.
  • Staying current on environmental regulations via training and research.
  • Defining and establishing when environmental and regulatory research and involvement are needed for projects.
  • Developing and implementing SWPPPs, Tier I SPCC, and WPCP plans on a project-by-project basis.
  • Developing training materials and conducting environmental awareness training necessary to update personnel on upcoming environmental regulatory requirements.
  • Building relationships with local governments to ensure compliance.
  • Collaborating with the HSEQ team to obtain environmental company goals.
  • Strong understanding of the Clean Water Act and NPDES permits, SPCC plans, and solid waste management.
  • Expert in identifying recordkeeping and reporting gaps and identifying industrial activities with the potential to impact the waters of the US and lead to soil contamination.
  • Strong background in proper reporting and permit submittals, best management practices, good housekeeping practices, and remediation procedures.
  • Excellent organization, time management, data management, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Any other duties that may be assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to anticipate and plan for potential risks and challenges before they arise.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including creative solutions to complex. environmental challenges.
  • QSP, QSD, and other stormwater training
  • Well-versed in environmental standards & regulations applicable to the construction industry.
  • Ability to perform fieldwork and collect and interpret data.
  • Expert knowledge of environmental regulations and laws with a specialty in stormwater and wastewater.
  • Proficient in data analysis software and Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, CRM, and Procore.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Ability to communicate complex technical. information in an accessible and understandable way.
  • Strong understanding of environmental science and sustainability principles
  • Proven success in facilitating group discussions, including incident investigations & root-cause analyses.
  • Previous experience implementing policies and procedures that are protective of the environment, personnel, equipment, and business interests.
  • Flexibility & proven ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree (preferred) in environmental science, industrial hygiene, occupational safety, or a science-related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in HSE-related roles, preferably in the Wind, Solar, or Industrial construction industries.
  • Experience with Regulatory and Environmental affairs particularly in the Construction Industry with a heavy emphasis on electrical systems or environmental and regulatory disciplines.
  • Experience working with an R&D program, new technology implementation, and/or a startup company.
