Recreation Specialist
Job description
This is part-time, responsible work performing assigned clerical, technical, and administrative tasks in support of various daily operations in the City’s botanical gardens, Sunken Gardens. Work involves scheduling, organizing, instructing and supervising recreational and educational activities and programs including a strong focus on booking and facilitating daily tours, classes and events; assisting in coordinating the Gardens’ volunteer program including scheduling and record keeping; general communication with the public; and maintaining moderately complex fiscal, operating, personnel and facility activity records. Work also involves research and writing skills; the collection and creation of educational materials for adult and children’s programming; promotion of programming (including creation of promotional materials); presenting programming as appropriate; and assistance maintaining the Gardens’ archive and history center. An employee in this position reports to the Gardens’ education coordinator but may act in a supervisory capacity directing the work of others during events and programs. Working hours vary and will include weekdays, and some weekends, evenings, and holidays. Weekly hours worked are expected to be about 29 hours per week.
Salary: $18.97 - $28.91 Hourly

To QualifyMinimum Qualifications. Applicants must:
- Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
- Possess and continue to maintain a valid Driver License.
- Have experience using the Microsoft Office suite including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Have public speaking experience.
- Be able to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions.
- Be available to work varying hours to include weekdays and some nights, weekends and holidays.
Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:
- Have experience teaching or in the educational field.
- Have knowledge of, or experience with, gardens, plants, and current sustainable, environmentally minded horticulture practices.
- Have event coordination experience.
- Have an interest in local history.
- Have social media content creation experience, primarily using Facebook and Instagram.
- Have experience coordinating and supervising volunteers.
