R&D Engineer (CLF Fuses)

As a R&D (Research and development) Engineer, you will help steer the direction of strategic corporate technology by focusing on solving industrial problems through reliable research work. Working as a researcher in R&D projects, you will solve applied research and technology problems and develop ways to more effectively solve them. Reporting to the R&D Manager, you will collaborate with Marketing, Quality, Manufacturing and Engineering peers to sustain and evolve existing product lines while contributing ideas for innovative technology developments. In this role, you will leverage your technical skills to recognize problems, generate solutions and execute product development duties within all aspects of the product lifecycle.

Your responsibilities
- Manage product development activities for assigned projects (design, testing, certification, vendor communications, etc.)
- Effectively work across the organization to achieve project deliverables
- Perform dimensional tolerance analysis to ensure design functionality
- Prepare engineering documentation including drawings, BOM (Bill of material), material specifications, instruction sheets, quality control plans, etc
- Provide project updates and deliver presentations as needed, both formally and informally through proactive communications
- Recognize opportunities and potential risks related to intellectual property
Your background
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and minimum 5 years of experience in engineering, with emphasis in the design and develop of components or systems
- Knowledge of medium voltage electrical power systems and current limiting fuses is desirable
- Sound knowledge of mechanical design, manufacturing processes and the stage gate development process
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications and 3D modeling software (Creo preferred)
- Self motivated with a positive attitude toward achieving results
- Strong written and spoken communication skills (English required)
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that allows them to work for ABB in United States
