Public Works Apprentice (Streets and Roads)

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to perform manual labor to support the public works operations while also learning the fundamentals of the operations and how to drive and operate equipment and vehicles.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
- No experience required
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Learns to operate commercially rated vehicles, heavy equipment, power tools and other equipment/machinery; obtains appropriate CDL licensing
- Learns and performs basic sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure maintenance and repair to include point repairs, the installation of clean outs, proper cleaning procedures for storm inlets and sewer lines, etc.
- Assists crews and special projects which may include working with the tree crews, pavement repair projects, repairing waste roll carts, and/or the collection of municipal solid waste
- Works special events and attends classroom training
- Performs related work as assigned
SPECIAL LICENSE/CERTIFICATION

Valid Driver’s License

All positions must obtain a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class B within the first year (12) months of employment and maintain the CDL as a condition of continued employment
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

All positions require drug testing and background check before employment and may require a post-job offer physical as stated in Ordinances 21-14(b), 22-13 and 23-16

Must be able to work shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call duty, and call back duty
