POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Administrative Clerk – Sheriff’s Department
Reports to: Benson County Sheriff
POSITION OBJECTIVE AND PURPOSE:
Under the supervision of the Sheriff, assists that individual by providing research, technical and administrative assistance. Performs secretarial support activities and bookkeeping functions required by the Sheriff’s office. Duties require proficiency in typing, independent judgment and a high degree of accuracy.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Performs secretarial and bookkeeping duties; handles confidential matters; stays advised of the current status of the work of the Sheriff; provides information and handles various situations arising during the Sheriff’s absence as needed;
b. Handles a variety of administrative detail which involves contact with the public; works with the public in a professional and courteous manner; Receives, screens, sorts and distributes mail and files reports;
c. Organizes the department’s filing system, disposes of expired documents and files, archives the appropriate files and copies files;
d. Answers the telephone and schedules appointments. Performs general office duties to ensure the smooth operations of the Sheriff’s Department;
e. Composes correspondence and draft press releases, reports and articles for publication requiring application of thorough subject matter knowledge.
f. Assists in the training of newly hired employees if needed.
g. Performs all other various related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of grammar, spelling and punctuation. Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures. Skill in the operation of computers. Ability to perform clerical routines and handle clerical detail and receptionist duties. Ability to make routine mathematical computations. Ability to follow directions, work independently and have a strong ability to handle confidential material.
Education - High School Graduation or equivalent.

Under the supervision of the Public Health Nurse, assists that individual by providing research, technical and administrative assistance. Performs secretarial support activities and bookkeeping functions required by the Public Health Nurse’s office. Duties require proficiency in typing, independent judgment and a high degree of accuracy.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
a. Performs secretarial and bookkeeping duties; handles confidential matters; stays advised of the current status of the work of the Public Health Nurse; provides information and handles various situations arising during the Public Health Nurse’s absence as needed;
b. Handles a variety of administrative detail which involves contact with the public; works with the public in a professional and courteous manner; data entry of immunization information in the necessary software;
c. Organizes the department’s filing system, disposes of expired documents and files, archives the appropriate files and copies files;
d. Answers the telephone and schedules appointments. Conducts surveys on public health topics to collect data for community assessments;
e. Collates program packets and assists with mass mailing and pamphlets;
f. Conducts internet research on public health topics, demographic statistics, presentation material and grant sources.
g. Composes correspondence and draft press releases, reports and articles for publication requiring application of thorough subject matter knowledge.
h. Assists in the training of newly hired employees if needed.
i. Performs all other various related duties as assigned.
