Department Information


The Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Neurology, under the leadership of Professor and Chair Laurie Gutmann, MD, has a rich tradition in academic neurology with a national reputation in neurological education and neuroscience research. The department is located in the Indiana University Health Neuroscience Center, a state-of-the-art outpatient center that unites all the specialties that involve nervous system disorders—Neurology, Neurosurgery, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Neuropsychology and Neuroradiology. It is also home of the main outpatient Neurophysiology laboratory at IU Health. The adjoining IU School of Medicine Neurosciences Research Building enables clinicians, basic scientists and clinician-scientists to collaborate in an environment that is rarely achieved in academic medicine.

Job Summary


There are many small projects that need to be managed for the SNRI-biomarker core and neurology biorepository. Each project is usually $5,000 to $250,000 dollars depending on the number of samples and technologies being requested. The Neurology Biorepository projects involve IRB submissions, and managing clinical sample acquisitions from multiple sites.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Oversees each Neurology Biorepository project and all external SNRI-biomarker core projects from proposal to data reporting stage and any large non-neuroscience collaboration.
  • Ensures the project gets the information they need: letter of support, budget estimate, budget justification, and shipping information.
  • Oversees the master schedule, project timing, and result delivery.

General Responsibilities

  • Manages a small project, from start to finish, or one phase of a large project, ensuring on time completion within budget.
  • Develops project plan(s) and efficiently analyzes, tracks, forecasts, and reports on project metrics and shortfalls.
  • Reports on progress and provides regular updates to upper management.
  • Coordinates and communicates between various areas; conducts project meetings and prepares regular reports.
  • Collaborates with other departments to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
  • May provide guidance and support to non-exempt staff.

Working Conditions / Demands


This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
