Department of Emergency Medicine has an outstanding opportunity for Program Support Supervisor.

The Department of Emergency Medicine has an opportunity for a full-time Program Support Supervisor for a new Emergency Department-based HIV and Hepatitis C screening and referral program. The Supervisor will work directly with the Program Manager, the PI, ED, primary care and infectious disease providers to facilitate inpatient and outpatient follow-up for patients diagnosed with HIV and/or Hepatitis C in our Emergency Departments across UW Medicine, provide HIV and Hepatitis C education for UW faculty and the public, and supervise all student assistants. Major areas of responsibility for this position include tracking and monitoring hepatitis C cases across the UW system, providing education on HIV and Hepatitis C, fostering community partnerships to strengthen access to Hepatitis C and HIV care, and provide supervision to all research and outreach student assistants. Duties are primarily conducted in an office setting, with some outreach done in the community. This position will be based at UWMC-Montlake.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review laboratory and electronic health record (EHR) reports to identify patients who tested positive for Hepatitis C and/or HIV while seeking care in the Harborview, UWMC-Montlake and UWMC-Northwest Emergency Department and collect relevant information on past testing and risk factors.

  • Advise the Linkage to Care Coordinators on linking complex patients to care.

  • Promote the FOCUS Program within UW’s Emergency Departments and give appropriate provider education to accomplish program objectives.

  • Identify community partnerships that will improve the care continuum within the FOCUS Program.

  • Advise UW faculty, staff, and patients on resources related to Hepatitis C, HIV, harm reduction, housing insecurity, and/or other various barriers to care.

  • Supervise all student assistants within the FOCUS Program on position objectives, research methods, patient interactions, and other various duties.

  • Meet with student assistants on a weekly basis for coaching and program updates.

  • Collaborate with Public Health-Seattle & King County (PHSKC) programs serving similar patient populations (i.e., Healthcare for the Homeless, HIV/STD Clinic, and Downtown Needle Exchange) to coordinate care of mutual patients and facilitate referrals to community-based services.

  • Conduct interviews and investigations that build rapport through: equitable respect, open-mindedness, and compassion to all racial, gender, and class lines.

  • Communicate with: diverse cultures, people that are drug impaired, people with mental health issues, in a way that adheres to King County values.

  • Seek out interpreter services and collaborate with community partners as needed.

  • Review Hepatitis C and HIV screening and linkage to care data for trends on a weekly basis.

  • Under the supervision of the Project Manager, provide consultation, outreach, education, training and public messaging about Hepatitis C and HIV to health care professionals and community partners.

  • Assist with monitoring the quality of the Hepatitis C and HIV screening and linkage to care data and ensuring completeness and quality of data.

  • Attend weekly meetings with Project Manager to discuss screening trends, education plans, and strategies for overcoming barriers to care.

  • Assist the Project Manager in quality improvement for all FOCUS grants.

  • Respond to phone and email inquiries from the public and medical providers.

  • Manage patient records confidentially in accordance with medical center policies and procedures.

  • Triage patient calls and requests from FOCUS Hotline according to urgency and/or need; follow up and resolve requests in a timely manner. Receive patient complaints; obtain data; compose reports for review and resolution or work directly with patients to resolve complaints on non-clinical issues.

  • Perform other duties as assigned/required.

  • MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school graduation or equivalent AND three years of experience in the program specialty OR equivalent education/experience.


  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related academic area.

  • Experience working on research projects with a research team.

  • Previous human subjects’ interaction (e.g., recruiting or consenting patients, conducting study-related interviews or assessments).

  • Experience in health education.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

  • Clinical experience interacting with patients.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and to manage competing priorities and monitor/communicate project status.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.


  • WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, evenings and weekends as needed.
