The Program Manager II position oversees a broad range of development and alumni related functions and ensures that volunteer, stewardship, and cultivation strategies are carried out for the School of Optometry. This position is responsible for communicating with and working closely with prominent alumni, donors, corporations, foundations and prospects; and for providing outstanding stewardship, fundraising event guidance, planning and execution, and high-level cultivation support for major gifts. This position is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with individuals inside and outside of the UAB community that will continue to generate goodwill for philanthropic support of the school. This position reports to the Senior Director of Development for the School of Optometry and works closely with the School’s Director of Communications. This person must also be able to function as an integral part of a team which designs and implements successful fund-raising programs and events.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Implement best practices to engage alumni in lifelong progressive relationships with the School of Optometry. Promote a comprehensive understanding of the University’s mission, goals and priorities. (15%)
  • With the Sr. Director of Development for UABSO, plans and implements programs that inform and cultivate individuals, corporations and foundations with the capability of making gifts to support UAB. (10%)
  • Works with other members of the University Development Office staff to assure that potential gift prospects are properly researched and assigned, that all solicitations are coordinated and completed, and that donors receive appropriate acknowledgments and recognition. Manage all gift processing for the School of Optometry working in conjunction with UAB Gift Records. (10%)
  • Prepares budgets for the review of the Sr. Director of Development for fund-raising events, allocates costs to the appropriate unit(s), obtains necessary administrative approvals, plans and executes events, and provides periodic progress reports to appropriate offices. (15%)
  • Manages the daily office activity in an effort that the Sr. Director of Development can be focused on major gift solicitation; tracks multiple office projects and ensures that objectives and timetables are met. (30%)
  • Works closely with the Office of the Dean to provide or retrieve needed information, oversee donor and prospect correspondence from the Dean, and coordinate the Dean’s calendar for donor and alumni interactions. (5%)
  • Oversees the stewardship efforts on behalf of the School of Optometry. This includes the following (15%):
    • Working closely with the UAB Stewardship Office on annual endowment reports.
    • Preparing monthly gift reports
    • Assist with the UABSO scholarship awarding process.
    • Coordinate donor and scholarship recipient correspondence and introductions.
    • Oversee the annual Scholarship Dinner and various other cultivation/stewardship events working closely with the Senior Director
    • Monitor all UABSO endowments to ensure they are being awarded based on donor guidelines.
  • UABSO Alumni Association Board and Database Management - maintain an updated UABSO database - used for alumni association annual membership, holiday card mailing, and other purposes as deemed necessary.

(Annual Salary: $51,270 - $83,300)


Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, finance, communications or closely related field required and five (5) years of related experience. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement. The position prefers a minimum of three (3) years of project management experience.

Must have strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills. Experience with inputting information into CRM (Constituent Relationship Manager), B-Smart (scholarship management software), Excel, PowerPoint, and In Design preferred. Occasional night and weekend work are required. Must be able and willing to travel locally and nationally if needed.
