Background

Autism Community Alliance (ACA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that welcomes all neurodivergent young adults (18+ in age) interested in our vocational, recreational and social programming that fosters connections with families and communities in the DC metro area. Our programming is geared towards those that need close, direct personal care support to strengthen their independence with activities of daily living and communication. ACA is currently an all-volunteer organization.

ACA is operating out of a local community church in Burke, VA where our pilot day program ran from June 14 to November 18, 2022. Our launch date is scheduled for Tuesday, June 27th. The church has donated the use of their spaces and we will need to clear them out on a weekly basis, at a minimum, for the church’s use on various days and Sundays.

Our programming is geared toward community engagement and our participants leave the church once or twice daily. During our pilot program activities included, but were not limited to: morning social, daily walks, shopping for groceries, volunteering at food banks, group games, movement breaks, cooking activities, eating at restaurants, going to movies and museums.

Overview

The program manager is responsible for designing and implementing programming activities for ACA clients. They must be flexible and think outside the box in order to adapt the presentation of activities and materials to meet the needs of ACA clients and the need for any sudden schedule changes. The program manager will accompany and supervise attendants and/or volunteers to all activities.

We are seeking a light hearted, professional, energetic, flexible, confident, team player who enjoys working directly with the neurodivergent community. A sense of humor is important! We welcome individuals with initiative and fresh ideas. The president will closely collaborate with the program manager and be available for daily support during the launch of programming.

ACA offers flexible hours and is open to job sharing this position between 2 people.

Duties

• Design and implement programming
• Supervise, evaluate and provide daily support and guidance to attendants and/or volunteers, on an as needed basis
• Set up room on Tuesdays
• Take down room on Fridays
• Coordinate the set up and take down of room on respite Saturdays
• Attend meetings with ACA president as needed for networking
• Reach out to community partners for potential activities
• Scaffolding activities to meet needs of ACA clients
• Create a daily agenda of activities with a timeline, that can be shared with participants during morning social and throughout the day
• Assist President and/or Board Member with introductory training (offered within first month of attendants start date)
• Assist President and/or Board Member with introductory training that will be for Saturday respite volunteers (offered the hour prior to their start date)
• Develop communication system to report to families

Hours

• Mondays, 2 hours for consultation with ACA president
• Tuesday-Friday, 9am-3pm (26 hrs/week total including Mondays)
• 2 Saturdays/month, 11:30-5:30pm, for respite
• Hours are year round, with weeks off during winter, spring
• Weather closing will align with local school districts

Highly Preferred Qualifications

• Background in special education
• Familiarity with Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
• Familiar with B.F. Skinner’s Operant Conditioning
• Excellent communication skills
• Experience working directly with family members of developmental disabled
• Familiarity with Google Slides, Docs, Jamboard
• Bachelor's Degree

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with fundraising
• Experience with grant writing
• Experience with public speaking

Other notes

• Any expenditures must receive prior approval from the ACA president
• Must have own transportation, car insurance and be fully vaccinated for COVID per current CDC guidelines
• Availability to attend board meetings at least twice per calendar year
