Job Title: Industrial- Mechanic A

Location: Carteret NJ

Department: Industrial Maintenance

Reports to:Manufacturing/Packaging Maintenance Manager

Pay: $20-30Hr

Shift: MON-FRI 7 am to 3: 30 pm (1ST Shift) ---- (2nd Shift) 4 pm to 12:30 am

Employment Type: Full-time/Nonexempt

They are seeking an Industrial Mechanic with experience working on custom made machines, ideally from the pharmaceutical, nutraceutical or bioceutical or personal care or cosmetic manufacturing industry.

Essential Duties:

The Mechanic A is responsible for performing skilled work maintaining, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and cleaning all production related equipment in the plant to maintain good working order with no supervision.

This position is considered expert level and the A mechanic will be expected to help train the lesser skilled mechanics on a semi-frequent basis while performing a wide variety of skilled working in the maintenance of the production equipment. This position requires the performance of miscellaneous related duties as required.

  • In addition to the knowledge base and duties of lower skilled mechanics, A mechanics will conduct high level mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical troubleshooting and repair electrical problems and maintain complete equipment records and documentation related to tests, maintenance, modifications, and repairs demonstrating subject matter expertise.
  • Conduct test runs and start up equipment after all changeovers prior to production (Blister machine, filling machines, hot pour, pressing, shrink wrap, molding machinery and similar equipment).
  • Programming and troubleshooting PLC’s.
  • Complete all forms and records relating to repairs, schedules and cleaning of machines.
  • Participate in Continuous Improvement Teams and recommend improvements and modifications of the equipment to improve performance.
  • Maintain work area with attention to organization, cleanliness, and regulatory compliance.
  • Comprehension of and proficiency in IQ/OQ/PQ/PV in a cGMP environment.
  • Advanced knowledge and operation of fabrication equipment such as drill press, shear, band saw, belt sander, bench grinder, hand power tools, etc.
  • Assists in the installation and relocation of equipment.
  • Work OT and other shifts as required.

Education/Work Experience

Any combination of education and/or experience that has provided the knowledge skills, and abilities necessary for satisfactory job performance. Ideally have 7+ years of work experience in similar roles, preferably in the Pharmaceutical Industry.

  • High School graduate preferred in addition to any vocational or technical school training in machine tool technology.
  • Organized, detail oriented.
  • Excellent mechanical aptitude.
  • Willing to learn skills and troubleshooting expertise in order to advance to the next level.
  • Expert knowledge of packaging equipment repair, maintenance, and operation.
  • Skilled in utilizing miscellaneous measuring instruments.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English including reading, writing, using prints, ladder diagrams, operating instructions, and technical manuals.
  • Computer literate.

Physical Requirements

  • Receive instructions through various communications media accurately and quickly.
  • Convey answers or instructions to other workers accurately and quickly.
  • Must be able to lift and move up to a maximum of 65 pounds.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic will be subject to dust, noise, fumes, and odors.
  • The Maintenance Mechanic will be exposed to inside and outside environmental conditions.
  • The physical activity of this position includes, but is not limited to: climbing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, pulling lifting, grasping twisting, sitting, and feeling.
  • Safety equipment will be provided where needed and required to be worn and used.
