Position Overview:
Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Production Manager drives efficiency and productivity within the Eagan plant’s furnace operations in a manner that is consistent with established targets and parameters. Responsible for coaching and managing Shift Supervisors, the Production Manager drives team morale and ensures performance within department is consistent with all environmental, safety and quality standards.
Critical Success Criteria:
- Drive efficiency and productivity within the department while ensuring employee safety, environmental health and quality.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives by collaborating with maintenance and engineering.
- Oversee and monitor all equipment and processes within the department to produce minimal downtime and quality output.
- Supervise and develop department team leads/supervisors so that they have the knowledge and ability to effectively lead their team.
- Manage and control budget as it relates to labor and headcount planning.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and develop the leadership skills of all Shift Supervisors in the production areas; coach and provide training opportunities to promote continued leadership development
- Attract, acquire, and retain supervisory talent and champion all associated HR and Training strategies and processes
- Plan and schedule production based on but not limited to raw material, production capacity, and labor schedule; provide monthly production forecasts on a weekly basis
- Oversee reverb furnace responsibilities including but not limited to: containment room, feed delivery system, cooling water balancing/filter cleaning, ventilation - metallurgical and flue gas pipes, lead from furnace to completion of first dross, cost per ton, SO2
- Oversee the following blast furnace responsibilities: Coke inspection, flux inspections, delivery of slag to slag bin and lead to kanban, feed delivery system, area mobile equipment requirements
- Uphold all departmental housekeeping standards in areas including but not limited to: Blast, Dryer, Reverb, Barrel crusher, Marley Room, Baghouse/Dust Slurry Room, Wash Bay
- Partner with Process Technicians and Engineers to develop, test, and refine production procedures that will improve product, efficiency, and lengthen the production life of furnaces
- Review new or revised ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 documentation and other documentation; recommend and/or review safety, quality, and other checklists to assist production staff
- Report department statistics at the end of shift and assist Shift Supervisor(s) with the transition to ensure continuous operation of the plant; make rounds with incoming Shift Supervisor to review the status of the plant prior to shift change
- All other duties and projects as assigned by management
Requirements:
- Bachelor's Degree in Business, Management, Engineering, or related field from accredited College or University
- 5+ years of previous management experience within a manufacturing setting
- Demonstrated leadership skills to champion change in a highly dynamic environment, promote a positive team atmosphere, and sustain a continuous improvement culture
- Strong mechanical skills and maintenance of machinery and equipment
- Technical proficiency with PC and software applications, particularly MS Office
- Excellent structured troubleshooting and problem-solving skills with the ability to maintain composure during high-stress situations and maintain focus on ultimate objectives
- Highly motivated and self-directed; ability to work well under pressure, manage and prioritize multiple tasks concurrently, attend to details, and meet deadlines
- Maintain required certifications (Basic First Aid, CPR, Haz Waste) and 24 hours of OSHA training
- Willingness and ability to wear full-mask respirator directly against skin with or without reasonable accommodation
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous work experience overseeing and/or supporting furnace/smelter operations strongly preferred, but not required
- Subject matter expertise or otherwise technical proficiency with furnace/smelting processes strongly preferred, but not required
