The Production Manager is responsible for production operations at the Pirson manufacturing facility over multiple shifts to assure cost effective, timely manufacture of quality products. This role requires a background in manufacturing with experience in manufacturing management, a thorough knowledge of regulations concerning material standards, safety, production control, and good communications skills. The incumbent will integrate production operations or related processes over multiple shifts. Establishes short-term activities directed toward production continuity and balance, such as creating shift schedules, ensuring requisition of materials, machine loading, and equipment maintenance. Coordinates and integrates with other plant function areas to ensure support in attaining output, productivity, and quality. Selects, organizes, trains, and motivates the production labor force to ensure consistent attainment of production schedules at optimum productivity and cost levels. Recommends improvements in production flow or methods.

This position is key for the Site to achieve its safety, quality, OFIF, and financial objectives. The Production Manager has responsibility for the steady and reliable manufacturing process to produce products within the Quality specifications at target or lower cost. He/She is also responsible for continuously improving and leading cost savings initiatives within the production team and working towards Best-in-Class Targets for efficiencies, labor, manning, quality and cost. Strong focus on training and development of the staff and optimization of processes while considering cost, availability, and quality always working with a proactive safety approach.

Responsibilities

  • Support Continuous Improvement and Cost Savings efforts.
  • Lead accurate production reporting. Development and modify existing system to improve reporting detail and accuracy.
  • Build standards and part numbers. This includes direct materials and fixed/variable rates.
  • Supply sales with cost estimates for future product quotes.
  • Oversee development and manage training matrix for production operators.
  • Manage staffing levels to support multiple production lines.
  • Validate and track spend/production on a weekly basis to provide weekly manufacturing variance number to leadership team.
  • Enforce site policies.
  • Support and create plant budget and forecasts.
  • Forecast usage of production supplies.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials, Mechanical or Industrial Engineering along with 7+ years related experience in a Chemical/Materials Manufacturing environment and/or technical role.
  • Demonstrated statistical analysis and problem solving (e.g., DOE) skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office and Statistical Packages
  • Ability to work safely under pressure and to tight timescales
  • Six Sigma or Lean certification, preferred
  • Ability to be a team player, capable of working cross functionally across the organization to determine practical solutions to operational issues
